Mühle Glashütte Kampfschwimmer Watch Review

Mühle Glashütte has designed a timepiece for the 'Kampfschwimmer' - the Special Operations Forces of the German Navy - in celebration of the unit's 50th anniversary.

The Special Operations Forces of the German Navy are trained for deployment in water, on land and in the air, and the new Mühle Glashütte Kampfschwimmer watch is specifically designed to meet the needs of the soldiers with a focus on precision and durability.

Each of the Mühle Glashütte watches presented to the soldiers featured their individual tactical numbers engraved on the case back. Although designed for the Special Operations Forces unit, the watch is described by the brand as "the perfect complement for everyday use through its masculine, sporty design and robust functionality."

The watch has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 44 mm. The bezel is divided into three minute intervals, as the naval commandos are trained to cover a variety of distances in three minutes. The training to become a Kampfschwimmer involves three months of performing daily dives, mostly at night. The three-minute time division of the watch when used in conjunction with a compass allows the soldiers to perfectly orient themselves. "As soon as the minute hand of the Kampfschwimmer timepiece has moved from one index on the dial to the next, the soldiers know they have covered an exactly-defined distance and so can perform their dive as planned," the watch brand explains.

The sawtooth bezel found on these Mühle Glashütte watches is based on the insignia of the combat divers: the sawfish. The 50th anniversary logo of the Kampfschwimmer unit appears on the case back.

The watch is water resistant to 300 metres and it has a screw-in crown positioned at 4 o'clock for comfort and freedom of movement. SuperLumiNova coating is used on the hands and indices to ensure easy readability when diving or in darkness.

The Mühle Glashütte Kampfschwimmer is powered by a six-position regulated Mühle movement and Mühle rotor with patented woodpecker neck regulation and 38-hour power reserve.
