Reviewing the Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton Collection

Japanese watch manufacturer Seiko launches a new series of limited editions designed in collaboration with Zero Halliburton, American luggage experts renowned for their durable aluminium suitcases. Here’s all you need to know about the new Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton Limited Editions under references SPB269, SPB277 and SPB271.

Seiko have no shortage of collaborative releases. Just recently, we’ve seen the release of the 2022 edition of the Brian May Red Special watch designed alongside Queen’s legendary guitarist, the Presage Castle in the Sky Limited Edition which captures the nostalgia of Studio Ghibli’s animation and a Seiko Captain Willard revival released for the 80th birthday of Naomi Uemura. A collaboration we didn’t expect however was that of Seiko and American luggage brand Zero Halliburton. Targeting travellers who want tough, head-turning aluminium travel bags and suitcases, the luggage brand now tempt the wrists of luxury watch collectors with a trio of Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton watches featuring the ”double-ribbed” design of their creations.

There are three Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton Limited Editions to choose from, two of them are larger GMT models while the third is a much more classic time-and-date only model. All three are part of the brand’s Sharp Edged series, a collection distinguished by sharp, angular cases, integrated lugs and an unmissable sporty elegance. They closely resemble the aesthetics of Grand Seiko watches but without the Spring Drive or Hi Beat movements to keep the price point down.

For the two Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton GMT watches, you’re looking at case sizes of 42.4mm by 13.7mm with one engineered from classic stainless steel with a super-hard coating (SPB269) and the second opting for a more aggressive, sporty look with a black hard-coating on the stainless steel case (SPB271). The classic steel reference displays a crisp white textured dial with faceted hour markers, blue accents and a black to blue GMT aluminium bezel with a 24 hour scale. The second reference pairs its black case with a black textured dial, darkened steel hardware and the same two-toned GMT bezel. Both dials feature the familiar Japanese hemp leaf pattern of the Sharp Edged Series but with a new double ribbed design inspired by accents on Zero Halliburton’s luggage.

The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton GMT watches also boast 100 metre water resistant ratings, sapphire crystal glass, a three-row link bracelet in the same metal as the case and a power reserve indicator. The latter works to approximately 45 hours fuelled by the Calibre 6R64 automatic winding movement with a central GMT hand and accuracy of -15/+25 seconds per day. The movement can be spotted through the exhibition case back, one that is completely transparent on reference SPB269 and one that is smoked on the SPB271 model. The case backs are also detailed with the Zero Halliburton logo.

For the time-and-date only reference of the Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton collection, a much more understated aesthetic is delivered. The stainless steel case with super-hard coating sits on the wrist a little smaller at 39.3mm by 11.1mm and elects another crisp white dial with the hemp double-ribbed pattern and blue-coloured accents on the hands and flange. The classic hours, minutes, seconds and date complication are powered by the Calibre 6R35 movement with a 70 hour power reserve and an accuracy of -15/+25 seconds per day. We’re also welcomed to a 100 metre water resistance, sapphire crystal glass, an exhibition case back and a steel bracelet. Like it’s GMT counterparts, the Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Zero Halliburton SPB269 is delivered in a special Zero Halliburton polycarbonate case.
