Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Liberty London Limited Edition Review

A collaboration between one of London’s high-end department stores and a manufacturer of high-performance, vintage-inspired dive watches may not seem like the most obvious pairing but Zodiac and Liberty London have more in common than you might think. They prove it for the second time running with the release of the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Liberty London Limited Edition watch.

Lining the pavement of Regent Street in Carnaby London, the Tudor-revival building of Liberty London is more than just a home to high-end fashion and luxury homeware. It has become somewhat of a national custodian of British culture with the exterior itself an attraction for tourists and locals alike. On the north entrance, situated above the three storey archway, the famous Liberty Clock is the retailer’s only connection to the world of horology. Zodiac, on the other hand, know nothing but watches. Based across the ocean in Le Locle, Switzerland, Zodiac’s headquarters produce some of the industry’s most distinctive vintage-styled divers watches with their Super Sea Wolf collection in particular housing some of their finest technologies and designs.

There’s something about two unbelievably different brands collaborating that we absolutely love. It’s a perfect way of introducing two opposing audiences to something different, and since this is actually the second time Zodiac has collaborated with Liberty London, they’ve proven opposites certainly do attract. Their first limited edition was launched in 2019, a handsome purple-tinted version of the Super Sea Wolf GMT. Sadly, it was a very limited run of only 30 pieces so not many luxury watch connoisseurs were able to get their wrists on one. This time around, you’ll be pleased to know the collaboration is much bigger with the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Liberty London watch limited to a greater number of 300 pieces.

Like it’s 2019 predecessor, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Liberty London Limited Edition watch wonderfully commemorates the partnership with a stunning purple colourway inspired by the Liberty London logo. Purple makes its way across the rubber strap, luminous triangle marker on the bezel, minutes track and on the slender seconds hand. A reworked Art Nouveau motif is also engraved onto the case back drawn from Liberty’s historic archive and the watch is presented in a gorgeous wooden gift box inlaid with the familiar shade of purple, marking its status as a collectible timepiece.

Other than its vivid colourway and uniquely decorated case back, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Liberty London follows suit to the rest of the Super Sea Wolf collection. It promises the effortless legibility, high-precision and robust case design required for an underwater adventurer. The round case is engineered from classic stainless steel and measures to 40 millimetres in diameter and 13 millimetres in height. It’s black bezel, black dial, sapphire crystal glass and long, sharp lugs make it a pleasure to wear as do the three choices of straps that come in the box. These include a black calfskin leather band, a purple rubber strap and a stainless steel bracelet.

The case of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Liberty London Limited Edition watch is tested to 200 metres of water resistance and is powered by the STP3-13 self-winding movement. STP is the Swiss-based movement manufacturing arm of the Fossil Group, Zodiac's parent organization. The movement runs the luminous central hands for hours, minutes and seconds, the date window at 3 o’clock and the healthy power reserve of 44 hours.
