What makes Messika jewellery so special?

Recently at C W Sellors Jura Watches, we welcomed Messika to our extensive range of fine diamond jewellery brands. With many unique collections to explore, we delved into the background of the brand and its creative director to discover what makes each piece of Messika diamond jewellery so special.

It is a fine balance, juggling the art of modern jewellery design and tradition, but it is one that Messika, the famous Parisian brand manages to achieve effortlessly. The company’s design studio in Paris is a forge of ideas, innovative concepts and time-honoured techniques that come together to create a unique blend of mastery. Here, the concepts of each popular Messika jewellery collection are birthed. There are work benches, countless tools, and an elite team of experts. Together, these form a bubble of innovation, where ideas take shape and boundaries are pushed to create new bold and daring pieces for the modern lady. Messika jewellery designs are leading the way and have been since 2005. The brand is still considered a relatively young one and is gaining more and more global recognition with each new release.

Valerie Messika, the creator behind the brand and the artistic director, takes inspiration from the architecture of the buildings in Paris and the museums and parks that represent some of the capital's must-see locations. The Maison’s challenge is to enhance the spirit of Messika through new and exciting design languages. The collections take inspiration from Haute Couture and fashion, but above all, the femininity and elegance of the modern 21st-century woman. In addition to this, architecture and travel are inspiring threads that run through some of the core Messika jewellery collections. Some of the most popular lines include Messika’s Gatsby jewellery collections, the iconic Move line, which spans the Move Uno, Move Romane, Move Noa, Move Classic, and Move 10th collections, and the My Twin and Skinny jewellery lines.

Messika and France is a love story that has stood the test of time for over 15 years now. To Valerie Messika, Paris is the perfect place to combine French know-how and unique craftsmanship. Each diamond jewellery creation harnesses the heritage of this romantic city, making these innovations a perfect gift idea for a loved one on an anniversary or birthday. After setting up her first boutique in Paris in 2005, Valerie Messika never looked back. The brand’s High Jewellery Atelier followed. Driving the direction of the brand forward requires more than one pair of hands alone, however, so this work is shared with Valerie Messika’s cousin.

Valerie Messika recalls the time of the brand’s launch over 15 years ago – a time of apprehension surrounding diamond jewellery. Many women would only wear diamonds for a special occasion. Messika jewellery designs soon created room for more flexibility when it came to modern diamond jewellery designs and when or how to wear them. Whilst many of the brand’s earrings, rings, necklaces and bangles are incredibly opulent and refined, they’re also incredibly versatile. Appealing to women who like to wear jewellery as a part of life, not just as a special occasion, this demystifying of diamonds enabled women to express a sense of individuality and personality through these unique creations, layering and stacking them with many other similarly styled pieces from the same or similar Messika jewellery lines.

Dominating the red carpets also, Messika diamond jewellery has been the first choice for many celebrities, including Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid and Olivia Wilde. In 2020, Messika also designed a custom choker for Beyonce’s Superbowl event. Tiffany Haddish and Olivia Colman also donned popular pieces of Messika jewellery at the 2021 Golden Globes. Taking the European jewellery scene by storm, Messika has also partnered with many leading names in fashion, showbiz and entertainment. Supermodel and presenter, Gigi Hadid created a capsule, choosing the Move Addiction line as a symbol to represent designs for women that are both wearable and delicate at the same time. The rounded edges and bold curves of the Messika move Addiction line represent the familiar rectangular Messika frame, whilst also discreetly forming the shape of her initial.

Whether considering a design from the Move jewellery collection or something clean and classic from the Gatsby collection, Messika jewellery is a perfect choice for adding a touch of opulence and refinement to smart, casual and elegant attire. Behind every collection are the secrets to the industry and a fascinating world of scintillating diamonds from which Valerie Messika has forged her ideas and concepts from. Only ever intending to compliment and adapt to any one personal style, Messika continues to lead the way with new and bold ideas. Multiple rings that connect with a diamond-set bar structure and asymmetrical earrings are just some of the most eye-catching Messika jewellery designs on offer. Others balance a playful edge with a simple scintillating stone held amidst a smooth, polished rub-over setting.
