An overview of the latest IWC Ingenieur watches released at Watches & Wonders 2025

IWC Schaffhausen is blowing me away with its Ingenieur-stamped dial. No matter what colour the brand renders it in, it looks incredible. Luckily, as I had predicted myself, IWC has dedicated quite a bit of its focus towards extending the Ingenieur collection’s offerings this year, with some dial colours that are simply out of this world. One is the IWC Ingenieur 40 Green iteration, which transforms the prop watch worn on the wrist of Brad Pitt in the Joseph Kosinski-directed film, “F1” into the real deal. Other examples include the blue Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 watch, and the Ingenieur 35 tone-on-tone pink gold iteration. So, without further ado, let’s delve straight in and see what IWC Schaffhausen wowed our team with at the annual Geneva fair this year.

The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41

The Ingenieur has a bit of a checkered past as not all models have been instant hits. Still, there is no arguing that the Perpetual Calendar has always been a useful complication within the line. This year at the Geneve-based watch event, IWC has revealed a stunning blue iteration, which adopts the same layout that we’ve seen in perpetual calendars of the Portugieser and Portofino type. A 41mm stainless steel case houses the Calibre 82650, which is put on show via a sapphire exhibition caseback. Designed to sit nicely on the wrist, it’s clear that IWC specialists have put all their focus into ensuring this watch delivers on the comfort factor. The integrated bracelet now has tapered articulating links that become quite a standout feature of the design. This is a great way to honour Kurt Klaus’ innovative perpetual calendar complication, and it works remarkably well in the confines of a steel sports watch.

The Ingenieur 35

Onto the more compact iterations of the Ingenieur and the 35mm models are a welcomed new addition to this sports watch collection and are designed to fit like a dream on the wrists of those less endowed. The IWC Ingenieur 35 watches comprise three references; two of them are crafted from stainless steel featuring a black and white dial, and a third one is crafted from 18ct rose gold with a colour-matched dial. Interestingly, the blush pink tones of the latter seem to allow the grid dial pattern to melt into the rest of the dial for a more cohesive look. The departure from the classic 40mm is refreshing, and it gives the female audience a chance to enjoy the style and understated elegance of the Ingenieur, without lavish diamonds and exotic materials (at least, for two of these examples anyway). Sometimes the simplicity of the steel sports watch is its most compelling aspect – a theory I’d have to agree with when it comes to these three new references.

The Ingenieur 42

It makes sense that the Ingenieur's largest offering is also one of the most standout. IWC experts choose a cool and sleek all-black outfit crafted from the brand’s proprietary ceramic alloy. The brand embraces this black-on-black look with perfection, choosing the material for its lighter, more scratch-resistant and more durable properties. A series of case finishes, including sand-blasting, satin and polishing all help to bring out the angles and bevelled finishes of this tool-like watch. Of course, these textures are a good fit for the patterned dial, which features the IWC lettering at 12 o’clock and a discreet date window at 3 o’clock. Interestingly, the black aesthetics of the new ceramic Ingenieur 42 watch continue to the back of the case, where a smoked sapphire exhibition caseback gives way to a view of the Calibre 82111, equipped with a Pellaton winding system and several ceramic-crafted components for all-round better resistance to wear and tear. The black ceramic Ingenieur is a stealth-like model that completes its look with a matching Ceratanium bracelet and a folding clasp engraved with the IWC logo.
