The new Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT watch in blue is a convenient and user-friendly travel watch with a gradient dial and a 24-hour scale on internal bezel
The beauty of the new Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT blue watch is its ability to balance durability with water resistance to create a go-anywhere do-anything kind of companion for the wrist. At the back end of last year, the Swiss watch manufacturer released two GMT Worldtimer watches from the Freelancer collection. Alongside this innovative blue dialled GMT watch, the two Freelancer GMT Worldtimer 7265 watches came in a choiacce of a stainless steel case topped with a bronze bezel and crowns (one for winding the movement and one for pulling out and aligning the world time city with the main hour hand for measuring multiple time zones at once) and a robust stainless steel case with a black DLC-coated surface and a matching black dial and strap.
These GMT watches featured a gradient-effect dial with a 24-hour scale, a world cities disc, day and night colours representing each half of the 24-hour scale, and luminous-coated hands and indexes for perfect timekeeping in the dark. This new Raymond Weil GMT Blue watch features a similar gradient-effect dial, this time in blue but this time swaps out its world cities scale for a simple and straightforward 24-hour scale – all housed in a stainless steel case measuring the same 40.5mm diameter. Let’s take a closer look at the new Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Blue watch.
The new Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Blue watch sits at a height of 9.7mm on the wrist. The case is completed with polished finishes and brushed sides. The lugs which are set 21mm apart from one another are also equipped with two different sets of spring bar holes to allow for a broader scope of options when it comes to changing the straps. A thin fixed bezel sits on top of this 100-meter water-resistant case, surrounding an enticing gradient blue dial that adds another level of sophistication to this travel-friendly tool. A pane of anti-glare sapphire crystal glass protects the surface of the dial. The 2 o’clock crown on the case gives access to the movement itself, whilst the 4 o’clock crown is adorned with a globe engraving, just like the two Worldtimer watches and can be used to rotate the internal 24-hour bezel. The back of the case is also fitted with this material, putting the movement on full display as it performs. Other engravings sit below the sapphire on an angled bevel that in turn gives more room to the exhibition feature itself, producing an unobstructed view of the movement.
Although the flat section of the dial is smooth, a surrounding section features a concentric grooved pattern where the hours and minutes are positioned. This section extends itself right to the edge of the dial. To navigate around the hour track with more spaced out and larger baton-style hour markers, the hands of the dial in this Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT watch are also larger and slightly longer in size. The red arrow-tipped GMT hand has also received a nice blue-coated surface to compliment the shade of the dial. A rectangular date window resides at 6 o’clock, balanced by the Raymond Weil name at the top of the dial.
Inside the new Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT watch is the Calibre R RW3230 – a Swiss automatic movement that produces a power reserve of 50 hours. As well as a gradient blue dial, the model’s bezel also features a vertical gradient effect which fades from silver to blue to denote daytime and nighttime hours along with an elegant moon motif to depict midnight. All of these thoughtful finishes contribute to a well-rounded tool for all occasions. This crescent moon, the hands and the hour markers are all treated with luminous material for superior legibility at night and the watch is fitted on a stylish blue leather strap with a stainless steel double push security system on the folding clasp.
