U-Boat Introduces Two New Classico Tungsten Watches

New for 2022, U-Boat has released two new Classico Tungsten watches. The beige and black dial options both feature the iconic left-sided crown alongside an additional 24-hour sub-scale and a tough tungsten bezel atop a strong 100-meter water-resistant steel case
Tuscany-based watch manufacturer, U-Boat has released two new models to the Classico watch collection – a range of timepieces made for collectors with strong personalities. The bold luxury wristwatches belong to a catalogue inspired by the landscape and atmosphere of the region which U-Boat calls its home. Designed by Italo Fontana, the family-run business is thriving in its rich heritage, creating memorable wristwatch after memorable wristwatch – each one communicating the exceptional vision of its innovator. The U-Boat Classico watch collection is a line of models that promise cleanness and a modernity that will remain unforgettable. Two main distinctive features of the U-Boat Classico watch collection enable this range to stand out from the crowd. Firstly, the crown of each U-Boat Classico watch appears on the left-hand side of the case and has been fitted with the company’s patented crown protection system. Secondly, a unique serial number is engraved upon the side of each case.
Typically, a U-Boat watch is very large, with models varying from a broad 45mm and finishing at a gigantic 50mm. Italo Fontana describes the Classico watch range as taking “elegance to a whole new level” and many collectors think so too, with the range proving to be one of the company’s most popular. This novelty, however, is much smaller in size. The new U-Boat Classico Tungsten offers a compact 42mm diameter, differing from many other models (minus the 40mm Stratos) within the Classico range. Its destro arrangement, with a crown placed on the left as opposed to the right looks “stand-out” from an initial glance, whilst other elements of the new U-Boat Classico Tungsten watch remain practical and tool-like. The guard, which fits over the crown, is designed like a crown cap, attached by a metal hinge at 7 o’clock. The cap can be unscrewed to reveal the crown positioned underneath. Some other neat features to note about the new U-Boat Classico Tungsten watch are its see-through caseback revealing a visible movement through the rear of the case and its strong tungsten bezel. The new Classico Tungsten watch for 2022 has been released by U-Boat in two versions; one with a beige dial and one with a black dial.
The two new U-Boat Classico Tungsten watches feature a mix of indexes and numerals (12, 4 and 8 o’clock) that stand out with great visibility. Each marker is enhanced by a layer of Super-LumiNova, enabling it to glow richly in the dark. An additional 24-hour sub-dial positioned off-centre towards the 4 o’clock position adds another level of intuitive timekeeping to this Classico watch. The dial offers the date window in the unusual position of 9 o’clock against a rich black background. The mineral glass pane positioned on the back of the case has been secured by 6 screws and offers a clear view into the arrangement of a skeletonised rotor that has been custom-made by U-Boat. The polished tungsten bezel sits atop the AISI 316L steel case, integrated with 100-meter water resistance. Inside the case, the Swiss automatic winding movement, modified to U-Boat’s technical specifications, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 44-hour power reserve once fully wound.
To finish, both new U-Boat Classico Tungsten watches are completed on a lasered and aged natural leather band – a light brown for the cream-coloured dial and a darker brown colour for the black dial version. The leather is aged by a natural process and handmade in Tuscany. Here, a careful selection of leathers is chosen by expert craftsmen, whilst the seams are completed with waxed cotton. A tongue buckle in polished stainless steel enables the strap to sit close and comfortably to the skin.
