The NEW Oris Rectangular Watch Collection

For 2021, Oris revives its Rectangular watch collection with four colourful Art Deco-inspired timepieces to add to the series - each one encased in new proportions and served with a splash of colour.

Many may not be overly familiar with Oris’ range of watches from the Rectangular series but that’s about to change. Four new models have entered this family – a series that already occupied GMT models, chronographs and date complications. The Oris Rectangular already wears its “dress watch” badge with style, tapping into a universe that will resonate with lovers of the iconic Cartier Tank and the popular JLC Reverso watch. The new Oris Rectangular dress watches are crafted from stainless steel and measure a very manageable 25.5mm diameter. Variations come in a choice of white, anthracite, blue and Bordeaux dial colours to match their respective yellow, dark green, blue and Bordeaux leather straps.

Despite the rectangular-shaped case being nothing new in the world of luxury wristwatches, the Oris Rectangular design offers the male and female wrist something quite unique. Each of the four new timepieces come on highly polished cases with flanks that are tailored for a snug fit angst the skin. Their tapering lugs tip them into a resolutely elegant yet contemporary category of timepieces to wear with all manner of attire options. Peppy dials add a splash of colour to the wrist without going overboard and the case flanks enhance a very three-dimensional lift, whilst somehow managing to hug the wrist for a seamless finish underneath the cuff of an office shirt. That said, why would you want to confine these new Oris Rectangular watches to the office alone? Each version of this new line adds versatility to any growing watch collection, giving you the option to wear the watch on a bare wrist with confidence if you so wish. The models convey a sense of understated elegance. Without the addition of any diamonds or gems, their neat proportions, angular finishes and strong lines tap into a very elite watch-loving circle. The line celebrates an assured Art Deco-inspired flamboyancy, whilst their colourful straps match unusual dial shades to offer something less dressy than a bracelet would otherwise offer.

A closer look at the new Oris Rectangular watches

In the past, Oris watches have measured larger than these latest additions. The dimensions of these four new colourful iterations measure 25.50mm diameter x 38mm length, with steeped case flanks that accentuate a strong sense of geometry. The gentle cambering of the case, however, is somewhat contemporary and the top of the case is met with a domed scratch-resistant pane of anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. Mineral glass is used on the underside of the watch, granting a clear view of the movement that works deep inside the heart of the Rectangular watch. Each model is integrated with 30-meter water resistance and features a fluted crown to offer an easy grip under the fingertips.

The distinct rectangular-shaped profile of the Oris Rectangular watch is reiterated twice in the display of these four new releases. The white dial differs from the three remaining coloured dials in the fact that this is the only display that features black accents. All remaining watches feature silvered accents. Upon the white, anthracite, blue and Bordeaux dials, an outer railway and inner railway track echo the shape of the highly polished case and its neat lines. To identify the positions of the coordinating hour markers, the inner railway track features circular indexes. Printed black or silver baton hour markers join Arabic numerals at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock in this middle section and the dial is also equipped with a date aperture at 6 o’clock. Polished central hands that widen at the tip have been coated with a layer of Super-LumiNova for effortless timekeeping in the dark.

Inside the rectangular-shaped case of these new Oris dress watch is the Oris 561 movement. This self-winding calibre provides a 38-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Based on the ETA 2671, it offers central seconds, hours, minutes, date and stop second functions.

Overall, the new Oris Rectangular watches play on a sense of symmetry and geometry, with polished sword-shaped hands and crisply painted numerals that create a harmonious finish across all four different coloured dials. The time and date models put a slice of workmanship on show through the back of the case, whilst on the front side of the watch, distinct Art Deco-inspired designs codes are at play. Equally as pleasing to wear as a daily companion as much as it is a dress watch for pairing with elegant attire - these watches are affordably priced and make for a versatile addition to any growing collection whether you’re an Oris fan or not. The white dial is completed on a yellow leather strap, the blue dial on a matching blue leather strap, the anthracite dial on a deep green leather band, and the Bordeaux red dial on a matching Bordeaux leather strap. Each band secures with a traditional stainless steel pin buckle and comes integrated with Oris’ quick strap changing technology, allowing you to alter the look of the watch in seconds.
