The NEW Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Military Diver Limited Edition
Thursday - 29 April 2021
A new limited-to-999-pieces Bell & Ross Military Diver watch that combines the brand’s heritage in manufacturing luxury pilot and dive watches with a sleek, lightweight and scratch-resistant black ceramic case.
Just a couple of years ago Bell & Ross drew crowds to the stand with its square-shaped khaki and orange-clad BR 03-92 MA-1 model – a military watch inspired by the US Air Force MA-1 bomber jacket circa 1958. The watch was instantly met with resounding success – partly because of its inspiration and the brand’s background in military-inspired pilot and diver watches but also for its vibrant use of colour and that distinctive khaki shade. Similarly, Bell & Ross incorporates the khaki colour into the new BR 03-92 Military Diver Limited Edition watch. The army-coloured green is seen in the dial of the watch and also in its comfortable fabric strap. The BR 03 models are all 42mm in size, which, when their square shape is taken into consideration create a powerful presence on the wrist, just like the new BR 03-92 Diver Military watch, limited to just 999 pieces worldwide.
Legibility, of course, is an integral feature of any diver’s watch, pilot’s watch or military watch in general, thus this quality has been an appealing factor for many a Bell & Ross 03-92 dive watch in the past. As many collectors may already be aware, the company became a leading dive watch manufacturer when it produced the Hydromax model back in 1997, with its 11,100-meter water resistant case filled with oil. In 2017 Bell & Ross paid homage to its diving roots with the classic design of the 03-92 model, characterised by its “circle within a square” design. Before this, fans had enjoyed the vintage round case of the Bell & Ross Diver 300 in 2002 and the tonneau-shaped case of the Bell & Ross BR 02 in 2007 – all reliable, accurate and stylish enough but not quite as attention-demanding as the square-shaped diver’s watch – a bonafide underwater tool passed by the international standard ISO 6425 requirements. Meeting these same standards is the new Bell & Ross Limited Edition 03-92 Diver Military watch, which promises features like a unidirectional rotating bezel, a crisp and legible display, a sealed water-resistant case and a screw-in crown.
Squaring the circle
The case of the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Military Diver Limited Edition watch is crafted from lightweight and remarkably scratch-resistant black ceramic. The material creates a stealthy look on the wrist but also reacts strikingly with the watch’s khaki-coloured dial. Matte-finished, to exude a wholly modern look on the wrist, young dive watch or military tool watch collectors will be drawn to the sleek look of the BR 03-92 watch case, even if adding a black ceramic watch to their collection is something of a new thing. In addition to this, the black ceramic case is also integrated with 300-meter resistance and features an eye-catching crown protecting guard over the crown at 3 o’clock. The new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Military Diver Limited Edition watch features a circular unidirectional rotating bezel with visible markers in white and the zero indication represented by a triangle. Aligning the bezel with the minute hand will enable you to keep track of remaining dive time underwater but also a myriad of other timings above the water’s surface too.
The dial
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Military Diver Limited Edition watch features a khaki-coloured dial that matches effortlessly with the watch’s fabric khaki strap option. Its mix of circular and baton markers (both vertically and horizontally positioned) offers clarity when referencing the time quickly underwater. In addition to this, the markers and the central hands are also treated with Super-LumiNova coated material to assist with this whether behind the wheel, in the cockpit or exploring underwater depths. A date aperture has been located at 4:30 and remains a very discreet feature on the dial – ideal for those who aren’t a fan of the large date dials.
The engine
Bell & Ross have used the BR Cal 302 in the new Limited Edition Military Diver watch. The same movement featured in the new Red Bronze Diver watch launched this year too. The movement powers this Bell & Ross watch with basic hours, minutes, seconds and date functions. Based on the original Sellita SW 300-1, the self-winding movement beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a useful 38-hour power reserve once fully wound.
The strap:
The Bell & Ross BR 03/92 is finished on a choice between a black woven rubber strap or a military khaki green fabric strap. The standard pin buckle fastening gives the timepieces a classic pilot watch look and has been cast from black PVD coated stainless steel.
