The NEW Arnold & Son Globetrotter Rose Gold Watch

Crafted from 18ct rose gold and limited to just 28 pieces worldwide, the Arnold & Son Globetrotter Rose Gold watch tells the time across the world via a rotating sapphire hemisphere globe positioned underneath a stunning golden open-worked bridge

Despite the inflating price tags associated with many of life’s luxuries – one aspect of watch buying has at least become more accessible – worldtimer watches. The worldtimer complication has been around since 1931 and was first invented by Louis Cottier. Perhaps one reason why the cost of a worldtimer watch has reduced and become more affordable is the fact that many watch brands have had a go at creating their own - none more intricately and carefully done, however, than Arnold & Son. The watch in question, primed for global travel and exploration – business too – is named the Globetrotter and for Geneva Watch Days 2021, the watchmaker has created an 18ct rose gold rendition. Let’s not mistake this with two other iterations, however. The brand has also released two stainless steel models – one with a deep and mesmerizing blue dial limited to 88 pieces and another with a dial rendered in opaline. Both of these are incredibly opulent and will resonate with those who like their on-the-go watch to convey a strong sense of technique and a high level of craftsmanship.

None of these new timepieces could be more lavishly finished than the new 18ct rose gold Arnold & Son Globetrotter watch in rose gold, however. The watch works similarly to other luxury world-timer watches. When I say that, I mean it has a 24-hour ring. But this feature is normally combined with 24 global destinations. Cities that display a different time zone depending on where this 24-hour rotating ring is aligned. But the Globetrotter watch features a fixed bezel that makes this world timer watch pretty unique on the market. Instead, it features a rotating hemisphere globe that adds to the charm and visual appeal of the watch as a whole. There are also many meticulous hand-applied finishes, both to the dial and the movement. It makes owning a watch like the Globetrotter a mysterious and precious thing to marvel at, even if you don’t intend to use it for much travel right now.

I can’t go any further without discussing the dial of the watch. It is, undeniably, the focal point of the entire design. You can’t sink a few beers at the bar or go to a formal event without someone noticing this watch. The finishes are executed to such a high degree of detail that you couldn’t miss them if you tried. That said, it’s certainly not brash in any sense of the word. The finishes are modestly done and are endorsed with confidence. The continents across the globe featuring the northern hemisphere are flattish in profile but have been rhodium plated before being polished to contrast against the mountain ranges rendered in matt. These differences in texture and tone accentuate the differences in gradient and height. The oceans have been painted by hand and feature layers of lacquer that enriches the blue pigment of the seas. Mother of pearl powder is also added to this unique recipe, with iridescent shades that enhance luminosity across the display. What makes the dial even more fetching is that by night the dial illuminates its shorelines. Glowing richly in the dark these details on the dial are smattered with Super-LumiNova, creating a spectacle underneath a stunning open-worked bridge forged from 18ct rose gold.

The bridge, which fixes with feet at either side of the rose gold case, is adorned with a single ruby in the centre, holding together the axis of universal time. Other features of the rose gold Globetrotter watch by Arnold & Son nod to John Arnold’s marine chronometers of the past. For main timekeeping, the red arrows on the dial provide clear and instantaneous information whilst on the go. The entire surface of the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal glass canopy that forms a shield, protecting it from damage caused by scratching, denting, debris, dust, light, heat and moisture.

The baton indexes around the hour track of the new Arnold & Son Globetrotter Rose Gold Limited edition watch have also been treated with luminous material, and the 18ct rose gold case, which measures a confident 45mm, has been integrated with sapphire crystal glass. Through the back of the case, you can soak up a clear view of the Calibre A&S6022 at work. Whilst it performs, it puts on a visual display featuring a black ADLC treated rotor with a hobnail motif and 29 shimmering jewels. As it performs through a sapphire-backed case, oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it builds up energy storage capable of delivering 45 hours of power reserve whilst off the wrist.

Similar to the new blue and silver opaline stainless steel models, this Globetrotter watch in 18ct rose gold is fitted on a dark blue hand-stitched alligator leather strap with a matching 18ct rose gold fastening.
