Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Limited Edition Review
Tuesday - 21 January 2020
Considered the suave and sophisticated member of the Seiko family, the Seiko Presage watch collection brings to life Seiko’s strong heritage of watchmaking and their passion for exquisite technical prowess. Their newest additions to the collection are the two stunning Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Limited Edition watches, a duo of skeletonised timepieces inspired by a cocktail made from honey.
A cult classic amongst Seiko enthusiasts, the Seiko Presage Cocktail watch collection was first launched in 2010 and was created in partnership with Shinobu Ishigaki, one of the world's most highly regarded mixologists. Their designs are uniquely inspired by different cocktails with stunning faces evoking their own liquid counterpart. The two Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Limited Edition watches have taken their inspiration from the original cocktail “Honeycomb” created by Mr. Kishi of Star Bar. The honey comes from the Ginza Honeybee Project which is an initiative to raise honeybees on the rooftops of buildings in the Ginza district of Tokyo.
Beautifully characterised by the colour of the original cocktail, each Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Limited Edition boasts a mesmerising honeycomb pattern on the dial inspired by the honey from bees in Ginza. Outlined by subtle gold detailing, the pattern is two-toned with iridescent decoration on parts and smooth white coating on others creating a truly stunning finish. Sleek stainless steel faceted hands and indexes contrast against the gold and disrupting the geometric design is the open heart skeletonised aperture at 9 o clock which shows off some of the 4R38 automatic winding movement inside.
As well as providing classic central hands for hour, minutes and seconds, the Seiko 4R38 mechanical calibre with manual winding capacity also assures a remarkable power reserve of 41 hours. Its exquisite manufacture can be witnessed through both the open heart window on the dial and through the exhibition screw down case back. The gorgeous gold plated oscillating rotor takes centre stage alongside a stunning limited edition decoration.
The two Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Limited Edition watches are almost entirely the same, aside from their case sizes, limited edition value and straps. The Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Mens is limited to 6,000 pieces and is presented with a stainless steel case measuring to 40.5mm in diameter and 11.8mm thick. It comes with a black calfskin leather and a brown crocodile leather strap both with three fold clasps with push button releases. The smaller Seiko Presage Honeycomb Star Bar Ladies is limited to only 3,000 pieces and measures to 33.8mm in diameter and 11.3mm thickness. This comes with both a black calfskin and white calfskin leather strap with matching folding buckles.
