Reviewing the new Bremont Audley Watch

The new Bremont Audley has a palpable silver dial with blued steel accents and a simple three-handed display to match the polished finish of its stainless steel or 18ct rose gold case. It is one of the first of Bremont’s core range timepieces to be driven by the brand’s Manufacture ENG300 movement series and is tested by the company’s new in-house H1 Timing Standard

Within the Mayfair watch collection at Bremont, you can find several simple three-handed dress watches as well as a range of aviation timepieces such as the RAF-inspired Airco Mach 2 and 3, the ALT1-C watches and the timeless Solo watches. This united collection of understated timepieces is known as the British watchmaker’s dress watch range and offers a variety of styles, dial colours, strap options and features to choose from. These elegant dress watches are perfect for wearing every day or for saving for a special occasion. The Mayfair collection of watches was named by Bremont as a recognition of its first London flagship boutique. These classic cases crafted from precious metal or stainless steel are fitted on alligator leather straps, calf leather bands or stainless steel bracelets. Each model offers a pared-back design that enables it to adapt to pretty much any occasion or situation. Ready to join the Bremont Mayfair watch collection is the new Audley watch. Read on for more details…

The Bremont Audley

The Bremont Audley watch is a really simple design, but that is its beauty. Unlike the Bremont Solo watches belonging to the Mayfair collection with strong pilot-inspired features like the large triangular marker at 12 o’clock, the new Bremont Audley is a bona fide dress watch without a doubt. Despite this minimalist, uncluttered dial, there are many facets to its engine. Under the hood of this watch lives a very important calibre belonging to the ENG300 series that Bremont now assembles 100% in-house and manufactures many of its components for. It is the concealed detailing that will attract many to this new Mayfair watch. The movement is also tested in the company’s Henley-on-Thames-based facilities  - The Wing – a purpose-built state-of-the-art mechanical watch manufacturing centre with a workspace that spans a staggering 35,000 sq ft. The H1 quality and endurance test is in-line with ISO testing standards and takes its name from Harrison’s first H1 marine timekeeper developed between the years 1730 and 1735. The experimental timekeeper answered the problem of measuring Longitude out at sea. Subsequently, the movement was first fitted to the heart of Bremont’s Limited Edition Longitude watch released last year. Created in collaboration with Greenwich Royal Observatory, the watch is a homage to the prime Meridian and incorporates a real piece of brass taken from the original Meridian marker.

The case:

Historically, Bremont used to craft only its limited edition watches in 18ct gold, yet the indulgent 18ct rose gold 40mm case of this new Bremont Audley watch, paired with its beautifully finished silver dial is an intriguing juxtaposition that looks and feels 100% authentic. Alternatively, the 40mm stainless steel option donates a classic and conventional look to the wrist, contrasting with the subtle blue and red injections seen across its display. The two new Bremont Audley watches measure a 40mm diameter and feature stepped bezels that perfectly frame a spacious dial. The watch also measures a depth of 12.9mm. The timepiece incorporates Bremont’s Trip Tick case construction, which incorporates a separate case bezel, an independently machined case middle and a caseback, giving the watch a unique Bremont DNA with lugs that appear to melt over the case. The bezel itself has to be machined by a CNC mill-turning machine, with multiple axis to allow all of the planes to be achieved. The construction also features a scratch-resistant PVD-treated case barrel and a Bremont logo-enamelled screw-down crown to help assist the case with 100-meter water resistance.

The dial:

Both two variations of the new Bremont Audley watch feature a metal dial with a silver sunray detailing. It provides a shimmering, lustrous backdrop to a set of nickel or rose gold-plated hour markers to match the central hour and minute hand, and a blue steel central second hand. The minute railroad scale around the edge of the dial frames these features perfectly, including a recessed power reserve indicator located in the southern hemisphere of the dial. This function is represented in a red colour to indicate the lower end of remaining power for the ENG365 movement, alongside a blued steel hand.

The movement;

The beating heart of the new Bremont Audley watch, as mentioned, belongs to the new Bremont-manufactured ENG300 series. All the infrastructure to support the assembly, regulation and testing of the movement is done independently at Bremont’s Henley-on-Thames manufacturing facilities – The Wing - and adheres to the criteria set by Bremont when producing its new in-house HI Timing Standard. The ENG365 Calibre features a silicone escape wheel, a free-sprung hairspring, 22 jewels, rhodium-plated bridges, a gold-plated automatic bridge, and a solid tungsten rotor (decorated). Performance-wise, the ENG365 produces 25,200 beats per hour and delivers a power reserve of 65 hours. Its beautiful detailing and decoration can be observed via the watch’s flat sapphire crystal exhibition glass.

The strap:

Both the steel and the rose gold version of the new Bremont Audley watch for 2022 are fitted on a brown embossed leather strap with a pin buckle that is either crafted in stainless steel or rose gold to match its respective case material.
