Perrelet Launches Three New Turbine Pilot Watches
Tuesday - 06 July 2021
Swiss watch manufacturer Perrelet have unveiled three new interpretations of its legendary Turbine Pilots watch dressed in accents of electric blue, fiery red or vibrant yellow. Alongside their vivid colourways, animated Turbine dials and circular slide rule, the new releases are dominated by the brand’s latest manufacture movement, the P-331-MH.
When it comes to luxury watch brands that hold a distinguishing characteristic, few can match the patented double rotor winding system of Perrelet. The starring role of the entire Perrelet Turbine collection, the winding system delivers a traditional rotor equipped with an additional rotor permanently visible in the centre of the dial shaped like that of an aircraft propeller. The pair spin in perfect synchronicity and allow the wearer to admire and keep track of the constant oscillations. Since its release in 2009, the Perrelet Turbine has wonderfully honoured the brand’s heritage, utilising a large 12-blade wheel that turns freely over the entire dial surface to honour their founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet, inventor of the automatic, self-winding movement in 1777. In further celebration of their history, Perrelet have now launched a new manufacture automatic winding calibre in three new Perrelet Turbine Pilot watches.
Taking advantage of their several movement and production sites, Perrelet have combined their prowess for mechanical movement innovation to develop the caliber P-331-MH. From the pallets to the balances, to the escapements and balance springs, the entirety of the movement has been produced in the Jura Valley of Switzerland under Perrelet’s roof. Its construction delivers a range of improvements including improved finishing on the escape wheel, better quality jewels, a new lubricating system and a balance wheel now fitted with a double-cone Incabloc shock absorber. Together, these upgrades have allowed the caliber P-331-MH to reach Chronofiable® certification through the Laboratorie Dubois of La Chaux-de-Fonds. This certification requires the movement to undergo several assessments such as accelerated aging tests, traction tests on the crown stem, violent impact tests at 5000G plus resistant tests to temperature variation and magnetic fields. On top of this, the in-house movement has been COSC-chronometer certified for accuracy and boasts a power reserve of 42 hours.
As with all of Perrelet’s Turbine watches, the new trio of Turbine Pilots timepieces expose the automatic winding movement through an exhibition case back. Here, you can view some of the circular graining of the main plane, sandblasted and rhodium plated bridges and the beautifully engraved oscillating weight decorated with the Perrelet emblem. On the front end, the second oscillating rotor puts on a dazzling show through the Turbine dial. The propellers are clad entirely in black and as they spin, they create a colourful mirage exposing some of the vibrant striped decoration hidden beneath. The choice of red, blue and yellow accents continue on the tip of the seconds hand and across the circular aviation slide rule. Large Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions and the central hour and minute hands ensure exceptional legibility treated with white Superluminova and remain housed beneath sapphire crystal glass.
Each Perrelet Turbine Pilot watch sits on the wrist at a generous size of 48 millimetres with the assistance of a black leather strap with alligator pattern and a black PVD folding buckle. The case is engineered from stainless steel and coated in a stealthy black PVD finish for additional protection and comes equipped with a bi-directional rotating ring activated by the crown at 3 o’clock and an integrated crown at 9 o’clock for manipulating the hours and minutes. The case also promises a water resistance of 300 metres and maintains some of the key characteristics of the Turbine collection including fluting on the case middle and sharp angled lugs.
