One of the most appealing qualities of the new Oris Aquis Date Upcycle watch is the fact that every dial is different to the next. The PET plastic recycling process produces entirely random patterns resulting in no two dials ever being the same. Oris has agreed to keep producing the Aquis Date Upcycle watch for as long as the model is in demand. Beyond this dial, however, traditional watchmaking at Oris is present from every perfectly crafted link in the bracelet, to the archetypal hands, to the unidirectional rotating diver’s bezel, the Oris-stamped crown and much more.
About the new Oris Aquis Date Upcycle watch
As mentioned, the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle watch is produced in a 41.5mm or 36.5mm case crafted from stainless steel. The case is also water-resistant to 300 meters and features a domed sapphire crystal glass front with an anti-reflective coating on both sides of its surface. To uphold this impressive water resistance – a feature that has been utilized by recreational and professional divers since the collection first launched – the case is equipped with a screw-down crown and a screwed-in caseback. The reverse of the case also features a mineral glass exhibition feature for observing the performance of the movement as it works. Oris manufactures the cases of its Aquis series from a multi-piece construction, with a ceramic scale top ring on a unidirectional rotating bezel that only moves in a counter-clockwise direction. This, of course, is designed to ensure diver safety and will never enable the wearer to accidentally extend the remaining dive time whilst underwater.
The unique recycled plastic dial of the new Oris Aquis Date Upcycle watch is laid out in a familiar arrangement. The central hour and minute hands have been coated in a layer of Super-LumiNova material to assist with referencing the time in the dark. In addition to this, the baton indexes around the hour track are also finished in the same treatment and join a minute scale around the periphery of the dial. A date window is positioned at 6 o’clock, below the Aquis 300-meter water-resistant lettering. Behind the unique dial of the Aquis Date Upcycle watch is the Oris 733 movement, which provides a 38-hour power reserve and beats at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is based on the Sellita SW 200-1 and comprises a total of 26 jewels.
As mentioned prior, the new Aquis watch from Oris is completed on a stainless steel bracelet with links executed in fine-brushed and polished surface techniques. The bracelet secures to the wrist with a folding clasp with an extension feature that enables the watch to stretch over the top of a diving suit.
