Nomos reveals the new Tangente Neomatik 41 Update
Friday - 09 April 2021
A small update – a large impact. The new Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update watch presents the time on a rich midnight blue-coloured dial and is fitted with an original date complication thanks to the in-house DUW-6101 automatic calibre.
The Tangente Neomatik 41 is not the only watch that has received an update this year by expert designers at the German manufacturer’s Glashutte-based facilities. The Metro Neomatik, covered here, also received the same subtle modification – and it’s all about the original date feature. The Nomos Tangente collection has always been identifiable for a set of distinct features. These include an elegantly proportioned, barrel-shaped case, distinctive typography and a clear, simple dial layout. Its clean, luxurious design represents some of the more high-end timepieces from the German manufacturer’s catalogue and has been a bestseller for over 25 years.
Certainly, in the case of the new Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update watch – the design is faithfully followed once more. Its style is still Bauhaus-inspired like those that have been enjoyed before it, but now the new updated version features an original date complication that can be referenced from the periphery of the dial as opposed to the 3 o’clock location. The new Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update is crafted once again from stainless but is powered by the company’s DUW-6101 automatic movement – its main modification. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the updated version of the Nomos Glashutte Tangente Neomatik 41 so special…
The Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update
The new Nomos Tangente Neomatik watch keeps its harmonious, straightforward design codes. The “form follows function” concept is adhered to throughout its design, from its angular finishes to its famous hour track typography. The Tangente is recognised for its crisp black Arabic numeral hour markers inspired by the Bauhaus era. Seen in this new iteration, these accompany slender stick indexes inside a 41mm steel bezel. In the past, we have seen champagne, silvery-white, gold and grey dial colours. The new Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update watch presents the time on an indulgent midnight blue dial. The streamlined central hour and minute hands on the dial are rhodium coated, as is the second hand of the small second sub-dial at 6 o’clock.
The one-of-a-kind date complication
The date window is the enticing new feature of the Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update watch. Fitting the model with the reliable in-house DUW-6101 automatic movement allows for the date to be referenced in a new way. The date markers are presented around the very edge of the dial and are accompanied by apertures flanked either side. When the wearer looks to the date ring, he will instantly be able to access the correct day of the month, since the aperture nestled on either side of the relevant number is filled with green Super-LumiNova that illuminates at night or in dark conditions.
Considering the large size of the automatic DUW-6101 Calibre that sits within, the stainless steel case of the Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update watch remains slender on the wrist, sitting at a height of 7.8mm. The case is also integrated with 50-meter water resistance and features a sapphire crystal glass front and back. The strong and durable glass is treated with anti-reflective technology to rid the dial of any undesirable glare. Both the sapphire glass and water-resistant capability of the watch ensure a stable and dry environment for the DUW-6101 to perform inside.
The Nomos Calibre DUW-6101
The Nomos DUW-6101 is the brand’s first Neomatik calibre with a date. It measures a large 3.6mm diameter – a feature that is celebrated with a wide sapphire glass exhibition caseback feature on the reverse of the watch. It is also remarkably slim enabling it to fit effortlessly inside the slight dimensions of the Tangente’s case. The calibre has now been redesigned from start to finish, offering this new and innovative date feature. The date can be set easily in both directions with a few turns of the crown. To ensure high precision, the movement is fitted with the in-house Nomos Swing System. The proprietary escapement features a tempered blue balance spring and is accompanied by traditional Glashutte ribbing, a three-quarter plate and tempered blue screws. The movement provides a useful 42-hour power reserve. The calibre powering the Nomos Tangente Neomatik is also the first to feature three crown positions. The first or “home” position enables you to wind the watch by hand if you wish. The second sets the date (either forwards or backwards). The third sets the time.
To finish, the new Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update watch wraps around the wrist with a Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap in black. It secures with a Nomos-engraved winged clasp that has been developed entirely in Berlin.
