NEW Watches & Wonders 2024 Release- the Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech Watch Sets Sail

The new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa watch boasts a new Ti-Ceramitech material that is strong, lightweight and fracture-tough. The model celebrates Panerai’s partnership with the Luna Roso sailing team as it sets sail to compete once again in the 37th America’s World Cup.

Embodying all the qualities and features needed in a sailing watch, Panerai puts itself ahead of the game once again, releasing a new Submersible watch that flaunts a proprietary material that took seven years in the making. Whether you collect sail watches, follow the America’s Cup, or just love collecting Panerai watches, this new addition to the Panerai Submersible collection underscores everything important to the esteemed Italian watch manufacturer.

Panerai and Luna Rossa

Panerai began its journey with the America’s Cup back in 2017 when it became the world-renowned event’s sailing partner. It happened in the same year that the manufacturer sponsored the Softbank Team in Japan and the Oracle Team USA – just a few examples of how the brand cemented its presence in the world of sport. In 2019, Panerai announced it would become the official title sponsor of the Italian racing team, Luna Rossa. Since then, the manufacturer has dedicated its very own collection of timepieces to the team, celebrating this special partnership. Models like the Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta BiTempo watch display two time zones simultaneously, with a red-gilded GMT hand that pays homage to the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli boat. Then, there are models like the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono Carbotech, built from one of the brand’s proprietary materials and boasting a beautiful sun-brushed blue dial.

As the highly skilled Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team prepares to set sail once again for the 37th America’s Cup, Panerai marks the occasion with yet another striking interpretation, capturing the courageous values of the sport and the majestic beauty of the yachting world. In this new design, aesthetics and materials are at one, securing a valuable spot in the brand’s Luna Rossa watch category.

About the Panerai Submersible

To be able to fully appreciate the advanced toughness and alluring beauty of the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa watch, a brief overview of the collection is required. The Panerai Submersible watch is designed to go underwater and stay underwater. It’s an important feature for the watch since many water-resistant watches aren’t made to withstand very long periods submerged. Unlike those, the Submersible is primed for diving, swimming, and water sports, among many other pursuits. Whether exposed to salt water or freshwater environments, it will hold up, thanks to its design, which is now a separate entity from the Luminor watch – another iconic Panerai design. The Submersible actually started in the Luminor category but, deserving of its own recognition now sits in its very own range.

In observing the appearance of the Submersible, you’ll see characteristics that are shared with the popular Luminor range. These include the cushion-shaped case and crown-protecting bridge among some other features. However, it can be set apart from other models in the brand’s portfolio for several reasons. For a start, it features a unidirectional rotating bezel, designed for use underwater. The bezel can be aligned with the central minute hand on the dial to measure elapsed time once submerged in water The handy feature of the bezel is that it can only move in the counter-clockwise direction, ensuring that dive time can never accidentally become extended with a quick knock or bump to the bezel.

The New Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa Watch

Two fresh models join the Luna Rossa lineup this year – both of which have been unveiled at Geneva’s prestigious Watches & Wonders 2024 event. The PAM01466 and PAM01543 watches are inspired by Panerai models that have gone before them, including those supplied to the Royal Italian Navy during the 20th Century. These new Luna Rossa watches belong to the company’s popular Submersible collection – the brand’s line of serious dive watches. What makes the models so important is that they are manufactured from a new Panerai material - Ti-Ceramitech.

What Is Ti-Ceramitech?

The clue is in the name here. Ti-Ceramitech is a titanium alloy that Panerai experts have subjected to a patented titanium “ceramization” process. That process, achieved through Electrolytic Plasma Oxidation not only produces a material with superior hardness and fracture resistance but creates a stunning blue hue. Panerai got its inspiration from materials and processes used in developing products for high-performance environments. The ceramic-coated materials in high demand throughout the yachting and sailing industry demonstrate the use of such materials in these environments and also include the ceramization of steel parts to reduce friction and enhance the speed and efficiency of racing boats. It has taken a total of seven years to achieve the Ti-Ceramitech material used in the design of the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa watch. The ceramization of the titanium used for this design achieves a distinct hue of blue while at the same time, transforming the titanium alloy surface into a ceramic layer that is dense and ready for its intended environment.

The peculiar and striking shade of blue achieved in the design of the new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa watch by Panerai is inspired by the open seas that many wearers will take to while wearing this new watch. As a result, the case is significantly harder, stronger and ten times more fracture tough, but with a 44% lighter composition compared to stainless steel.

Both new Panerai Submersible watches measure a 44mm diameter and offer an impressive 500-meter water resistance. A circular crown protection guard, which can be operated via its lever, sits at 3 o’clock on the case. Experts at Panerai also chose to develop the unidirectional rotating bezel from the same Ti-Ceramitech material and chose blue and white dial colours for the two models. In terms of the layout of the dial, you can expect the traditional Submersible style, with baton and circular hour markers, a small second sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a date window at 3H. Plenty of Super-LumiNova has been applied to the hands, which are propelled around the dial by the trusty P.9000 Calibre, complete with an impressive 3-day power reserve.

You can buy the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa watch on a blue bi-material rubber and textile strap. It features a red stripe running up the centre of the band in celebration of the Luna Rossa team colour.
