Navigating the way with the new Bell & Ross BR 03 Gyrocompass
Saturday - 28 October 2023
Since Bell & Ross re-designed the BR 03 watch collection earlier this year, the new Gyrocompass is the first to enjoy these revised features and boasts an unmissable hour, crafted into a jetfighter.
There is no denying the link between French watchmaker Bell & Ross and the world of aviation. The brand’s flight instrument watches are some of the most emblematic, not to mention its regular production BR 01 and BR 03 watches. The Red Radar watch, for example, took direct inspiration from radars used by flight controllers, whereas the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD was inspired by Head-Up displays found in cars and fighter jets, featuring a dial inspired by the brand’s earlier Bi-Compass watch. The manufacturer’s BR 03-92 Radiocompass, however, was inspired by an aircraft’s onboard radio receiver. The piece of equipment can guide pilots at night or in situations where visibility is reduced. All these emblematic Bell & Ross watches have a strong relationship with jetfighter dashboard instruments and have become some of the company’s most recognised and collectable timepieces to date.
Very recently, Bell & Ross redesigned its BR 03 watch collection, launching models with a smaller case design and an upgraded movement. In keeping with the new design, Bell & Ross releases the BR 03 Gyrocompass. It pushes the flight instrument design to the max with a polarising design that is sure to appeal to every Bell & Ross fan on the planet. The new Bell & Ross BR 03 Gyrocompass is one of the first models to benefit from the new modifications of the BR 03 collection. As well as a smaller case and a new movement, these new features include slimmer lugs and more pronounced bevels on the sides of the case.
In 2013, Bell & Ross was enjoying the success of the navigation compass. Its cardinal points positioned on the dial were useful for those in the cockpit but just as attractive for fans of the brand’s aviation watches. Differing in other ways, however, the new Gyrocompass watch features conventional hands as opposed to rotating discs. The case of the watch, crafted from micro-blasted black ceramic, measures the new size of 41mm.
As with every aviation instrument-inspired watch by Bell & Ross, this new Gyrocompass watch is powered by a reliable automatic movement. The Sellita SW300 movement produces a power reserve of 54 hours and is a tried and tested powerhouse. An additional fabric strap is supplied alongside its already-fitted black rubber band, securing with a black PVD-coated stainless steel pin buckle that retains the overall stealth-like look of the watch.
The dial of the new Bell & Ross Gyrocompass watch is, of course, the talking point of the entire design. It features a black matte surface fitted with an inner flange that features four navigational markers and a legible minute track. The four cardinal points of the design have been treated in luminous material to ensure they glow richly in the dark, as does the minute track, represented by five-minute intervals marked out clearly. The clever design of the hour hand dominates the entire design of the dial. Its unmissable profile is shaped into the profile of a jetfighter and has been coated in bright yellow Super-LumiNova. The minute and second hands of the new Gyrocompass watch are blacked out with just a luminous tip on each hand to stand out against the richness of the black dial.
preserve the legibility of the dial and protect its surface from denting, scratching, heat, light and moisture damage – the new Bell & Ross BR 03 watch is fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front. This feature works with the model’s screw-down crown at 3 o’clock to uphold a 100-meter water resistance.
The new Bell & Ross BR 03 Gyrocompass watch is limited to just 999 pieces. If you want to secure yourself a model, you can call and speak to a member of our sales team at 01335 453453 or check out the watch in more detail here.
