Meet the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver
Friday - 01 April 2022
The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch is ISO rated and powered by a COSC-certified movement, protected by a staggering 1000-meter water-resistant titanium case
Due to the formidable threats posed by the sea and its incredible challenges, 80% of the world’s oceans remain undiscovered. The small 20% that has been explored mainly exists in the “sunlight zone” where commercial dive watches enable the wearer to explore down to 200 meters, maybe a little more. But deeper down reveals a whole new underwater universe that many dare not venture into. Territories of giant squid, sperm whales and imposing predators lurk amidst the “twilight zone”. To explore the dense pressure and sunlight deprived space that exceeds these few hundred meters, one has to wear a watch sufficient in withstanding these conditions. That’s where the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch comes into play…
The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch is a large chunk of titanium measuring a 45mm diameter, creating a huge wrist presence. Some clues that point to this watch being a tool for serious exploration are its helium escape valve and crown guard that deflects 360-degree impact or pressure to the crown and ensures water cannot seep into the case. Like all watches from TAG Heuer’s new(ish) Aquaracer Professional series, the model meets the brands 6-factor criteria. It has superior water resistance – in this case 1000 meters, a double security folding clasp, a unidirectional rotating bezel, a sapphire crystal glass front, a screw-in crown, and luminous markings to assist with intuitive timekeeping underwater.
A close look at the new TAG Heuer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch
Unveiled at the Watches and Wonders 2022 event in Geneva, TAG Heuer presented this new rugged yet lightweight dive tool under its exhibition spotlights – its beautiful 12-sided bezel positively gleaming. The unidirectional rotating bezel, which turns only in the counter-clockwise direction to ensure no accidental extension of dive time, bears a legible white 60-minute scale upon its black ceramic surface, with the first 15 minutes highlighted in a block of orange. Its vibrant hue matches that of the orange central second hand on a dial that is executed in the familiar Aquaracer Professional horizontal striped effect. Despite its superior water-resistant rating and a titanium bodywork fit to face any extreme underwater environment, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch looks incredibly similar to its 300-meter water-resistant siblings, including the new and bold TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver watch that we covered in a little more detail here.
TAG Heuer’s Creative Director, Guy Bove explains a little about its design: “Well, we start with the case. Obviously, the material thicknesses are quite different, especially the sapphire glass, which is quite a bit thicker. Some of the work that goes into designing it is trying to keep a watch that will look right on the wrist, but adjusting a few angles here and there to make sure it sits properly, since it’s getting thicker.”
The sapphire crystal glass front of the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch has understandably grown in thickness to enable it to face the intense pressure that accompanies such a deep dive. This change gives the appearance of a boxed sapphire crystal glass front, adding to the masculine and overall robust charm of the diving instrument. Although the same hand used in the Aquaracer Professional 300 watch, the hour hand of this new and advanced dive tool has an extended angular tip that differentiates it from a minute hand that has now gained a vibrant orange hue. Both the hour markings and the hour hand on the dial of this new TAG Heuer Superdiver watch have received a generous layer of green emission Super-LumiNova, whilst the minute hand and bezel markings glow in a rich turquoise hue, off-set furthermore by its striking orange 15-minute section.
The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch is powered by the chronometer-certified TH30-00 – a first for the brand. It offers an impressive 70-hour power reserve and has been produced for TAG Heuer by Swiss manufacturer, Kenissi. It performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is concealed behind the watch’s specially engraved caseback bearing the famous diver’s helmet against a honeycomb-like surface effect.
Capable of surviving the crushing pressure of 1000-meter depths, the new TAG Heuer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch can stand proud on the wrist with its matching brushed and polished titanium bracelet. The bracelet secures with a folding clasp and push-button mechanism.
