Longines Launches NEW Spirit Time Zulu Watches
Monday - 28 March 2022
There are some integral features to note about the new Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch: 1) it has been outfitted with a new in-house calibre, 2) it enables you as the wearer to adjust the hour hand without affecting the GMT hand, 3) its dial is stamped with the 5 stars, symbolising a warranty of five years and a COSC-certified movement. Available in three sophisticated colours, there’s now a chance to own a travel-oriented slice of the Longines Spirit pie, equipped with an innovative GMT complication in dial colours of mate black, sandblasted anthracite, or sunray blue.
Based on some key functions of the brand’s Heritage Pilot watch – Longines Spirit watches were formed in 2020 as a fusion of the brand’s latest technology and, of course, the role it played in supplying some of the most accurate timepieces to the aviation industry throughout its history. The collection has been defined as a family of watches that pay tribute to pioneers of the land, sea and sky. Now, with over 100 years of experience in producing multiple time zone watches, Longines adds the Spirit Zulu Time watch to its catalogue, fortified by a reliable movement and equipped with a coloured ceramic bezel.
Longines’ history in dual time zone instruments
The first Longines watch to offer a dual time zone function was produced in 1925 and named the Zulu Time, with a Z-flag symbol on the dial. This special stamp represented the Universal time format used both historically and today. Before this, Longines had successfully developed a pocket watch that could indicate Turkish time and French time simultaneously on one dial. Two patents followed this design, followed by a special cockpit clock developed in 1931. Its double handed design indicated hours and minutes, accompanied by two concentric 24-hour time zones. Two years later, Longines developed the collectable Weems Watch - a 47mm model with double hour and minute hands.
The new Longines Spirit Zulu Time range
The new crop of three Longines Spirit Zulu Time watches comprises the model reference: L3.812.4.63.2 featuring a black dial with gold-coloured Arabic numerals, GMT hand and central hour and minute hands. The watch is supplied on a beige leather strap with cream contrast stitching. It secures with a stainless steel folding buckle and micro-adjustment system, with an interchangeable facility. Alternatively, and for a dressier feel, the black Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch ref. L3.812.4.63.6 offers a stainless steel bracelet option, equipped with a triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism, with an interchangeable system.
The new Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch ref. L3.812.4.93.2 with a stylish blue dial features a matching blue leather strap with the same stainless steel buckle. White Arabic numerals hour markers and hands stand out against the display’s beautiful sunray finish, whilst a black and orange arrow-tipped GMT hand adds a pop of colour to the display. The ref. L3.812.4.93.6 comes on a brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet.
Lastly, the Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch on a sandblasted anthracite dial ref. L3.812.4.53.2 adds seductive matte tones to this striking design. This effect upon the dial is met with white hour markers and hands and is pierced by a vibrant blue and black arrow-tipped GMT hand. The ref. L3.812.4.53.6 offers a sophisticated stainless steel bracelet option for pairing with formal or elegant attire by night.
All three new Longines Spirit Zulu watches feature Super-LumiNova-coated hands and Arabic numerals and all have a ceramic insert fitted to their bezels that match their respective dial colours. These new multiple time zone watches offer a date window at 6 o’clock, an engraved and luminous-treated 24-hour scale on their bezels, and measure a diameter of 42mm.
These stainless steel Spirit watches are integrated with 100-meter water resistance and have been fitted with a boxed sapphire crystal glass front with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant properties. A screw-fixed caseback conceals the new in-house manufactured movement by Longines – the Calibre L844.4. It produces a 72-hour power reserve, beats at a rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features a silicon balance spring to resist magnetic damage. The automatic movement is also COSC-certified and, along with all other watches from the Longines Spirit collection, comes with a promised 5-year warranty.
