Introducing the new Squale 1521 Classic COSC Watches

The new 1521 Classic COSC watch by Squale promises a COSC-certified automatic inside its robust stainless steel case, adorned with a mix of brushed and polished finishes to reinforce its masculine and dive-ready appeal.

If you haven’t yet heard much about the new 1521 watch releases from Squale, here’s what they offer. The case finishes are a mix of brushed and polished effects, indicating Squale’s gradual move up the “premium” ladder. The new 1521 watches also feature COSC chronometer certification as indicated in their new titles. With that in mind, these models have well and truly worked their way into the big league, with an unparalleled level of authenticity and precision now promised in these new models.
As you may have imagined, to produce watches with such a distinct “diver watch” style, you would have to have made it big in the industry during a crucial period in horology’s history. Squale was indeed a successful dive watch manufacturer that first started out supplying cases and other components for other watch brands. These watches were produced under the Squale name from the 1950s onwards and went on to produce cases for several brands during the 1960s and 1970s, Sinn included. It was not until 1974, however, that Squale began manufacturing dive watches of its own kind. Production stopped in around 1989 during the crushing effects of the quartz crisis but revived itself in 2010. Its headquarters are located in Milan and its manufacturing facilities are in Grenchen in the Jura Valley. Today Squale has been commended for its consistent and relentless quest in innovating and growing its technologies – the new 1521 watches of which are a perfect example of this.
The two new Squale 1521 Classic COSC watches are offered in a conventional black dial or vibrant blue display. Both models are crafted from stainless steel that has been bead-blasted. Measuring a 42mm in diameter, the design pays tribute to the brand’s heritage in dive watch manufacture. Measuring a thickness of 12.5mm on the wrist, the curving watch sits ergonomically with a screw-down crown that is recessed into the side of the case to avoid snagging on clothes or diving gear whilst in action. Its matching bead-blasted stainless steel bezel is unidirectional rotating, which means it moves only in the counter-clockwise direction to ensure that the risk of accidentally extending dive time is eradicated. The bezel, finished in a colourful anodised aluminium material matches its respective dial and has a 60-minute dive scale for aligning with a vibrant orange trimmed minute hand.
The new Squale 1521 Classic COSC watches, whether you opt for the bright blue or sleek black dial, is equipped with an hour track that pays homage to classic dive watches of a bygone era, with the familiar mix of circular and baton-shaped hour markers. The 12 o’clock location is represented by a triangular motif, whilst a date window resides at 3 o’clock. Anti-reflective treatment has been applied to the surface of a pane of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, enhancing the legibility of the vibrant orange minute hand when underwater.
To assist with daring underwater exploration, no less than 500 meters of water resistance would be accepted by experts at Squale. The watch can venture down to these depths whilst you as the wearer activates the diving bezel and uses it for legible timekeeping whilst venturing deep into the water. Both the bright blue and black dial versions of the new Squale 1521 Classic COSC watch are powered by the SW200 automatic calibre, which is COSC certified. To complete its powerful and sporty look, the watch is fitted on a stylish black Tropic rubber strap, chosen for its quick-drying properties and modern, ergonomic design.
