With so much focus on Maurice Lacroix’s Aikon watch collection, it’s easy to forget about the band’s elegant Pontos line. But its conservative, modest design makes it an exceptionally versatile timepiece for the office or for adding to smart-casual attire at the weekend. Maurice Lacroix’s third return to Geneva Watch Days to present its new 2022 releases presented a new and refreshed Pontos watch design, complete with a contemporary touch. This new limited edition Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date watch is exclusive to 1000 pieces worldwide and now flaunts a sleek black DLC-coated case and a comfortable yet practical black nylon NATO strap.
The look of the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day Date Limited Edition watch is not the only thing that has recently changed. The watchmaker has revealed it is redirecting its focus towards appealing to a younger audience. Millennials are sure to love the look of this new addition. Whilst remaining faithful to previous models from the 2020 range, this new timepiece reaches a height of just 11mm on the wrist, making it an ideal companion for wearing underneath the sleeve of an office shirt. Its diameter measures 41mm and the case is crafted from stainless steel with a sleek black DLC coating to inject a touch of modernity into the design.
Although on first impressions the new limited edition Pontos Day Date watch appears to look perfectly round in shape, there are some additional yet subtle features that add detail and interest to its profile. The watch has tapered guards that flank a fluted design and showcases a stepped bezel. Practically speaking, the model offers 100-meter water resistance, so it can certainly hold up whilst taking a quick shower or a dip in the pool. Its strong outer glass is crafted from sapphire crystal and has been treated with anti-reflective technology to assist with a glare-free view into the dial, day or night.
Of course, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos has always been loved for its spacious and beautifully proportioned dial and those values are certainly respected once again in this new release. The model features the popular day and date functions but also boasts some additional layers and textures that create yet more detail to the watch. A sandblasted and recessed minute ring surrounds an arc-shaped aperture at noon presenting the days of the week. This feature is counter-balanced by a 6 o’clock aperture that displays the date. A black background behind each of these details matches the faceted indices around the dial. They’re also both recessed. The dial itself is executed in a stunning deep khaki green colour with a sunray finish. The shimmering surface of the dial catches the light really nicely to give the display a silky effect. The dial of the new Maurice Lacroix watch also features Super-LumiNova seen in the hour and minute hands, as well as a vivid red-tipped central second hand.
Inside the black DLC-coated stainless steel case of the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day Date Limited Edition watch is the calibre ML143, which is based on a Sellita movement. It performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of 38 hours. Its rhodium-plated finishes and circular graining in Cotes de Geneve effect make for a particularly interesting view through the back of the case, which has been sealed with a piece of sapphire crystal glass. To complete its youthful look, the model is completed on a black nylon NATO strap that secures to the wrist with a black DLC-coated stainless steel butterfly clasp engraved with the Maurice Lacroix logo.
