Introducing the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph Blue Sun Watch

The dressy chronograph watch in a 43mm size comes in a new sophisticated sunray-brushed blue dial colour

Back in 2020, Maurice Lacroix released 5 new iterations of the Pontos watch to mark 20 years of its classically elegant design. The versatile, dressy chronograph watch bridges the gap between the bold and sporty Aikon watch and the complications found within the Masterpiece collection. Now the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph comes in a stunning blue dial colour called the Blue Sun.

The Pontos series is home to chronographs and simpler three-handed designs, as well as models like the Pontos Day-Date and the Limited Edition Pontos Chronograph Monopusher. The design first launched in 2000 and since then has been widely collected thanks to its universally appealing design. Threading the needle between classic and modern, the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph Blue Sun watch, like many watches from the same collection before it, promises to look understated enough for wearing with professional attire but elegant enough to wear during the evening.

The new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Blue Sun watch will certainly welcome a thought-provoking topic of conversation amongst watch enthusiasts, mainly thanks to its meticulous finishes and its new deep captivating blue dial. The new model follows in the footsteps of the anniversary models brought out last year but exudes a dresser style thanks to this new blue display. Still, this is a no-nonsense chronograph with the sub-counters placed in the 12-6-9 layout. Continuing on this updated path of models, it sits slightly underneath Maurice Lacroix’s platform for more complex creations – the Masterpiece and the robust-looking luxury sports watch - the Aikon.

The new Blue Sun Pontos Chronograph offers a nice alternative to the frequently seen sun-brushed grey and white lacquered dials that normally reside within the Pontos watch collection. Instead, the sunray-brushed blue dial is a refreshing hue for the wrist that can pair just as easily with evening attire as it can with work attire during the day. The Arabic numerals placed around the hour track are finished in silvery tones to pair nicely with the watch’s stainless steel case. Matching these finishes is the chronograph counters – 30-minutes at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o’clock and a small second function at 9 o’clock. Playing with proportions as it has done in the past, Maurice Lacroix has enlarged the two chronograph counters leaving the small second sub-dial slightly smaller in size. Each counter is enhanced all the more by a raised metallic ring. Partially openworked are the central hour and minute hands, finished with Super-LumiNova tips for assisted guidance throughout the night or whenever caught in dark conditions.

The case of the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph Blue Sun watch remains faithful to the classic collectable. The dressy chronograph measures a confident but comfortable 43mm diameter and is integrated with 100-meter water resistance. The case is mainly matte-finished but subtly polished accents do elevate the watch to a more elegant styling. The push-pieces at 2 and 4 o’clock are flat in profile to facilitate easy handling over the chronograph complications. The sapphire crystal glass front, which acts as a protective shield over the top of the dial, has been treated with anti-reflective properties for a glare-free view into the dial. The crown at 3 o’clock is adorned with the signature spiral knurling and has been stamped with the ML logo.

Inside the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph Blue Sun watch is a reliable movement – the self-winding ML112. Its architecture is based on the Sellita SW 500 which in turn is also based on the design of the Valjoux 7750. It runs for approximately 42 hours once fully wound, promising to keep accurate time whilst off the wrist. The automatic movement, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, can be observed through the back of the case which features a transparent sapphire crystal glass exhibition feature.

The new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph Blue Sun comes on a robust three-link stainless steel bracelet and a foldable clasp engraved with the signature ML logo. For more information on the model, you call our sales team at Jura Watches today on 01335 453453
