Introducing the Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba Automatic
Monday - 24 May 2021
No strangers to well-appointed sports instruments, Hamilton have dropped a new and improved series of Khaki Navy Scuba Automatic watches intended for underwater exploration. While still retaining the respectable diver’s aesthetic, the new designs go deeper with extended water-resistant ratings, colourful ceramic bezels and an increased case size of 43 millimeters.
First launched in 2017, the Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba collection is home to a multitude of colourways and variations including several quartz and automatic pieces. Their automatic range in particular has captured the interest of professional and recreational divers alike, serving as the perfect entry-level divers watch with all the tech you could need for the high-seas. With the introduction of the new Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba 43mm watches, the collection is expanded even further delivering larger proportions, a new ceramic unidirectional bezel, removal of the date window, a 300-metre water resistance and a marginally thinner case. Hamilton seem to have improved on every aspect of the Khaki Navy Scuba and yet they still support a remarkably affordable price point of under £1,000.
Starting with the case, the new Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba Automatic watches boast 43-millimetre-wide stainless steel cases with the same robust and sporty stylings as the previous 40mm automatics, just bigger. Despite their larger width, the watches have been slimmed down from 12.95mm to 12.8mm thick. Topping the steel cases are unidirectional rotating bezels which feature a new ceramic insert coloured in black or blue to match the dial. Ceramic is one of watchmaking’s most high-tech materials and with its impressive scratch resistance and corrosion to salt water it perfectly pairs with the Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba 43mm watches. For measuring elapsed dive times, a Superluminova dot is secured on the bezel at 12 o’clock.
The Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba Automatic watch collection continues to deliver improved functionality with an increased water resistant rating of 300 metres (compared to 100 metres of previous editions) secured by the screw down crown and two crown guards. On top, scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass is fitted and treated with anti-reflective coating while on the case back, a screw down case back hides the movement. The case is treated with alternating brushed and polished finishing and secures firmly to the wrist by a black rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet.
Housed within each Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba watch is the H-10 automatic movement. Based on the ETA-2824, the mechanical calibre comes highly respected for its game-changing 80 hour power reserve and unique balance spring engineered from NivachronTM, an alloy resistant to magnetic fields and temperate changes for optimal stability and precision. The H-10 movement runs at a frequency of 21,600vph, or 3Hz, and indicates hours, minutes, and seconds. The base movement would normally include a date complication but for a cleaner, more refined look, Hamilton have opted to exclude this on the Khaki Navy Scuba Automatic.
The Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba 43mm is currently available in three variations, two dressed in black and the third in blue. The blue model (H82505140) is delivered on a classic stainless steel bracelet while the black is offered on a choice of a black rubber strap (H82515330) or steel bracelet (H82515130). Each dial design follows suit to existing Khaki Navy Scuba watches but with a new pronounced grained surface. Optimal legibility is encouraged by Superluminova treatment on the hour markers, Dauphine-shaped hour and minute hands and on the red tip of the seconds hand.
