Introducing the Bremont Jaguar C-Type Watch

Celebrating the Jaguar C-Type’s 1973 Le Mans racing victory, Bremont launches a new Jaguar C-Type for 2023, inspired by the car’s tubular steel chassis and aerodynamic aluminium body.

The Le Mans endurance race has seen many victories over the years and this month is celebrating its centenary. The world’s oldest active endurance racing event crowns the car that has covered the greatest distance during 24 hours each year, but a special occasion occurred for Britain 70 years ago when Duncan Hamilton’s win secured first, second and fourth positions in the legendary Jaguar C-Type. As a celebration of this iconic moment in British engineering, Henley-On-Thames watchmaker Bremont is releasing a new version of the Jaguar C-Type watch for 2023. It follows a long line of Jaguar watches as part of its special series, alongside other notable British icons of the 20th century such as the D-Type and E-Type.

The iconic design of the Jaguar C-Type

The new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch, released in time for the 70th anniversary of the Jaguar’s special win, pays homage to the tubular steel chassis and aluminium body of the original 1951 car model. Malcolm Sawyer’s work is beautifully celebrated in the design of the new C-Type, with nods to the car’s fluid yet classic shape. The Jaguar C-Type watch of 1951 was inspired by the XK120 model and was named the XK120 C – also known as the C-Type. The former was the first post-war sports car and was launched at The London Motor Show in 1948. The C-Type’s aerodynamic structure was afforded by the steel chassis that Bremont now applies focus to in this new release – a feature that made it an unbeatable force on the race track. In fact, it secured it a 1951 and 1953 win at the 24 hours of Le Mans race, as well as a new average lap speed record.

To start with, the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch measures a diameter of 43mm and boasts a monochromatic aesthetic framing the Smith’s-inspired sub-dials that create a reverse panda display. White gloss numerals evoke the vintage details of the gauges seen in the car. These dials are arranged in a bicompax layout, with a scale at 3 o’clock offering a 30-minute totaliser and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. Balancing these features out at 6 o’clock is the date feature, which has been accompanied by the Jaguar logo. The C-Type watch also features red accents across its tachymeter scale, making it an effortless task to measure distance based on speed.

Of course, experts at Bremont use the brand’s patented Trip-Tick construction to create the stainless steel case. A PVD-treated case barrel ensures a scratch-resistant finish, whilst the tachymeter bezel is bidirectional rotating and is executed in a brushed effect to evoke the disc brakes of the C-Type. As with previous Jaguar watches by Bremont, the new C-Type watch features the Dunlop tyre tread adorned to the surface of the watch’s screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. What’s more, the Jaguar “Growler” hood badge is displayed on the surface of a closed caseback. This decorative coin completes the luxurious feel of this new Jaguar watch for 2023.

Bremont CEO Davide Cerrato extends on the significance of the stylish new model: “There is an intrinsic link between motorsport and high-end watchmaking. Automotive-inspired timepieces date back to the early rally timers used in the 30s with wristwatches coming in in the 60s at a time when drivers really depended on them, using chronograph functionality to record lap times and pit stops. It’s been over 70 years since the release of the C-type and Bremont is thrilled to continue celebrating Jaguar’s incredible motoring heritage with the release of this new piece.”

The new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch holds the Calibre BE-50AV within its strong frame. The self-winding engine performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 56-hour power reserve once fully wound. The movement powers a set of Super-LumiNova coated matte black hour and minute hands around the dial, as well as a sweeping central chronograph seconds hand. The black multi-level dial also features a dial ring with a minute track and red detailing on the 9 o’clock sub-counter. Of course, completing the classic look of this black and steel watch is a traditional black leather racing strap and a steel pin buckle.
