Introducing the Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition

Breitling celebrate a brand-new partnership with Australian lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina with the release of the new Breitling Premier Top Time Dues watch. Designed as a modern interpretation of a vintage chronograph, the limited edition of 1,500 pieces takes inspiration from the original Top Time collection from the 1960’s while embodying the stylish, fearless and purposeful soul of Deus Ex Machina and the Deus Swank Rally, an epic motorcycle championship of which Breitling is now the Official Timekeeper for.

On its release in 1964, the Breitling Top Time became one of the Swiss watch manufacturer’s sportiest models designed especially for young and active professionals just getting into the luxury watch world. It was an entry level classic until it ceased production in the 1970’s. Then, just last year, Breitling reived one of the Top Time’s most iconic references, the Ref. 2003, for the new Breitling Top Time Limited Edition. Its stylish stainless steel case and unmissable “Zorro” dial was an instant hit, speaking to fans of both vintage and contemporary watches alike. Bringing to life a similar retro-inspired aesthetic, the Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition embodies both its heritage and its contemporary collaboration with a stunning design motivated by the style of the Deus Ex Machina brand who celebrate a culture of creativity and a passion for machines.

Alongside the release of the Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition, Breitling have announced their new Dues Squad, a group of fearless explorers who have been involved with Deus Ex Machina for years. The squad includes Californian surfboarder and motorcyclist Forrest Minchinton, Hawaiian competitive surfer Sierra Lerback and French motorcycle engineer and designer Jeremy Tagand. The trio live a life of adventure, something that Breitling CEO, Georges Kern describes as being the concept and the aim of the Breitling Premier Top Time Dues watch.

“Bikers, boarders, surfers, digital nomads … this is a timepiece for dynamic people of action, purpose, and style. Our versatile Top Time Deus celebrates having the freedom to explore the world your way, at your pace.” - Breitling CEO, Georges Kern

CASE

Remaining faithful to the historic Breitling Top Time watches before it, the case of the new Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition is slender in design with an unembellished narrow bezel, straight lugs and scratch resistant convex sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating. For a modern touch, the stainless steel case has been upsized to 41mm but remains suitable only for dry weather with a 30 metre water resistance. The case also delivers a non-screw locked crown with one gasket and a snapped stainless steel case back. Alongside its limited edition status out of 1,500 pieces, the case back is adorned with a special piece of Deus artwork, an image of a motorcyclist in full flight designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell.

DIAL

For us, the dial of the Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition watch is where Breitling’s classic style really comes to life. Dressed in silver, the dial is a refreshing take on the traditional panda format with black squircle-shaped chronograph counters at the centre and a matching black tachymeter scale around the edge. The design is instantly noticeable, not only for the contrasting monochromatic look but for the addition of the bright orange accents on the hands and on the internal scale.

The partnership between Breitling and Deus Ex Machina is wonderfully highlighted on the dial, through both the colourway and clever subtle accents included on the hands and tachymeter scale. The shape of the chronograph hand on the Breitling Top Time Dues has been specifically engineered into a lightening bolt, a motif found on some of the brand’s best-selling merchandise while the black inner scale is detailed with the words “In benzin veritas” which translates to “In petrol we trust”. The font of the Breitling motif at 12 o’clock is evocative to their historic logo from the 1960’s in while the modern-day Deus logo is included at 6 o’clock.

MOVEMENT

The Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition is powered by the Breitling Calibre 23, a COSC certified chronometer movement which delivers an incredible accuracy of -4/+6 seconds a day, a healthy power reserve of 48 hours, 27 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Alongside this, the Swiss manufacture movement provides a central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, a small seconds dial at 9 o’clock and a 30 minute counter at 3 o’clock.

STRAP

Inspired by the Deus Ex Machina brand and Breitling’s new position as the Official Timekeeper for the Deus Swank Rally, the Breitling Premier Top Time Dues Limited Edition is paired with a racing-themed brown calfskin leather strap with perforated detailing and matching brown stitching. The strap also comes complete with a classic stainless steel pin buckle.
