Introducing the 2023 B.R.M Boat Master Collection
Wednesday - 05 July 2023
The new BRM Boat Master Collection is offered in 44mm or 34mm options and a range of case finishes that capture the essence of boat racing in celebration of the French brand’s recently acquired role of official timekeeper of the Grande Pavois La Rochelle event.
At the beginning of this year, BRM revealed that it was becoming the official timing partner for the UIM F1H2O World Championship. The French watchmaker has been synonymous with the world of motorsport racing for years and will also put its name to the qualifying sessions for the Grand Prix, where drivers will compete for the BRM Pole Position. Ever since Bernard Richards (who the company is named after) experienced an accident that put an end to his keen motor racing days, the brand has enjoyed a key presence in the world of golf and circuit racing, not to mention boat racing, which leads us onto the brand’s latest role as the official timekeeper for the Grand Pavois La Rochelle event. It’s a first for the brand in over twenty years, enabling BRM to make a remarkable entry into the world of boat racing with the launch of a new collection named The Boat Master.
The new BRM Boat Master watch collection is home to several 44mm and 34 models – each one crafted from stainless steel and available in finishes of blue, black and brown PVD coatings, as well as an unadorned stainless steel version with a brushed effect. One of the distinctive design elements running throughout this collection is the presence of a deep blue sunray effect dial that captures the dark blue ripples and waves of water. The light rays on the dial are reminiscent of the sun shining down on the surface of the water. The new range will appeal to marine life enthusiasts, whilst sections on the dial also feature the inscriptions of the main winds that blow in the Province region: Tramontane (North), Levant (East), Marin (South) and Ponant (West).
Three springs are incorporated into the design of these new models, also known as the SA or Shock Absorber feature, which was developed by the French watchmaker to protect the movement from unexpected shock and impact. For the first time, BRM also uses Hypalon fabric for its selection of different coloured straps. The synthetic rubber straps promise superior resistance to water, weathering and corrosion, not to mention tearing. Normally used in the manufacture of diving suits and life jackets, there is no doubt that this type of strap material is ideal for the new Boat Master Collection by BRM.
From the 44mm sizes, two brown PVD-coated stainless steel models are available, featuring a blue leather band with white contrast stitching or a blue Hypalon strap with double white stitching. Their intense blue dials boast a mix of red and white elements. Two black PVD options are also offered in blue dials with vibrant orange elements and a choice between a white or dark blue Hypalon strap with matching orange contrast stitching in a double row. Two other black PVD-coated cases are also offered – one with a white Hypalon strap with red and blue striped contrast stitching and one fitted on a dark blue Hypalon strap with red and white contrast stitching.
The cases of all 44mm models are crafted from one machined block of stainless steel and are accompanied by a screw-down crown at 4 o’clock on a matching PVD-coated finish. White lacquer also features in bands around the middle case of each watch and each model is topped and backed with a piece of sapphire crystal glass. The scratch-resistant and anti-reflective material enables a clear view of the dial and the movement, depending on whether you are viewing the watch from the front or the back. Whilst the models with the red accents feature an accompanying red band around the 4 o’clock screw-down crown, those with orange accents feature coordinating orange accents on their crowns.
Within the 34mm range, you get a choice of a black PVD-coated option with red and white accents and a white Hypalon strap with a mix of blue and red contrast stitching. Another model boasts a striking blue PVD-coated stainless steel case with blued accents and a dark blue Hypalon strap with contrasting light blue stitching. Lastly, two white dial options with matching white Hypalon straps are offered, featuring orange and blue contrast stitching that matches the dial elements and the coloured lacquer bands running through the middle of the case. These models forego the PVD coating, offering a resolutely sporty twist to the design instead. These models all measure a 34mm diameter and, like their larger counterparts, are integrated with 100-meter water resistance.
The new BRM Boat Master BM6 (44mm models) and BM2 (34mm models) also feature casing rings mounted onto shock absorbers that have been integrated with the patented Fortal HR technology and are powered by the ETA 2842-2 movement. The engine produces a power reserve of 38 hours and performs at a rate of 28, 800 vibrations per hour. It also comprises 27 jewels and is put on show through a sapphire-backed case.
