Hands-on with the Norqain Adventure Sport 42mm Bronze Watch
Friday - 06 January 2023
The new Norqain Adventure Sport 42 watch is the first bronze watch to enter this incredibly robust category of sports watches and features a stylish khaki green Norqain-patterned dial surface to accompany a set of bronze-coloured dial appliques.
The last few years have been pretty interesting for Norqain. Back in 2022, the brand announced its partnership with the National Hockey League Players’ Association and launched the limited edition Adventure Sport Chrono watch as a result of this alliance. The same year also revealed Norqain's partnership with esteemed movement manufacturer, Kenissi. A three-handed model and GMT watch were released following this, both of which were powered by a Kenissi movement capable of a 70-hour power reserve. In June of this year, Norqain aimed to be climate neutral by optimising its manufacturing processes by using more sustainable materials for its watches. Recently I also covered the Norqain Wild One Hakuna Mipaka watch, an ode to the 400 hectares of South African wilderness devoted to rescued wild animals and many species of wildlife. The vegan-certified watch company is also known for its use of alternatives to animal skin straps like its Alcantara and apple skin straps. The newest addition to the Kenissi-powered Adventure collection was the Neverest watch, with donations made on each sale to the Butterfly Help Project, which aims to support the children and families of those who have lost their lives climbing through the Himalayan mountains. The newest addition to the Norqain Adventure collection is inspired by the trail, summits and tides of nature’s playground. To face these extreme outdoor conditions, Norqain watches from this family must be incredibly robust, which leads me to firstly talk about the case of the new Norqain Adventure Sport 42mm Bronze watch.
The new Norqain Adventure Sport 42mm Bronze watch is the first bronze model to feature in this line of timepieces. Its bronze case and khaki green-coloured dial tones are a perfect match for one another, whilst the display of the dial gives the watch a noble yet sporty feel. What makes this Adventure Sport watch from Norqain so notable is its ability to pair well with pretty much any style of attire. Its bronze case gives off a subtle golden hue that adds a dressy sense to the timepiece, whilst the dark khaki green tones of the dial are great for wearing alongside elegant evening attire or a business suit. Additionally, the new Norqain Adventure Bronze watch is completed on a supple khaki green rubber strap with a line textured surface that retains a youthful and sporty look on the wrist whether wearing it for business, leisure, work or outdoor pursuits.
The new case of the Norqain Adventure Sport Bronze watch, as its name suggests, measures a 42mm diameter and features a sapphire crystal glass front, which seals to an eye-catching bronze bezel, protecting the surface of the display from moisture, light, scratching and dust damage. The design of the watch, with its tapering lugs and perfectly round shape, is perfect for sporty all-rounders and has a strong presence on the wrist thanks to its large and easy grip ribbed crown at 3 o'clock. The bezel is also unidirectional, ensuring that it will never accidentally extend itself. This safety feature is useful on dive watches, making sure the diver never accidentally knocks the bezel and increases his dive time whilst underwater. The bezel of this Norqain Adventure watch has a 60-click system and a knurled surface to optimise handling under tricky conditions. A luminous pip is situated at 12 o’clock on this bezel, enabling you to track the angle of the bezel in dark conditions.
The new Norqain Adventure Sport 42mm Bronze watch is water resistant to 100 meters. The screw-down crown, engraved with the Norqain logo, assists with this water-resistant capability. The satinated and polished effects across the surface of the bronze watch are a really nice touch and the left side of the case features a polished Norqain plate. Anti-reflective coating applied to both sides of the sapphire crystal glass top of this sports watch provides a clear view into the dial, whether caught in the blazing sunlight or under artificial lighting. The back of the case is crafted from stainless steel but coated with a bronze PVD finish along with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass caseback, offering a clear view of the movement in motion.
The automatic movement in question is that of the Calibre NN08, based on the Sellita SW200-1. It provides a 38-hour power reserve and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Through the sapphire-backed case of this watch, a clear view of a beautiful Norqain oscillating weight can be appreciated. This movement propels a set of hands around a khaki green dial with a special Norqain pattern applied to its surface. In addition to this, a set of hand-applied bronze indexes, coated with Super-LymiNova contribute to a legible dial that can be read instantly, even in the most challenging of conditions.
