Friday - 15 April 2022
Presenting the time on a fresh mint green dial and strapping to the wrist with a stunning dark brown alligator leather band - the new Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35 watch offers a never-been-seen-before style for the wrists of cosmopolitan ladies.
The Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35 is considered a women’s watch designed for action, style and purpose. Inspired by some of the most popular Breitling Navitimer watches of the 1950s, the model has been gracing the wrists of cosmopolitan women for the past few years and boasts a distinctly sophisticated personality. In honour of the icon's 70th anniversary, Breitling has released three stainless steel Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 watches and one 18ct rose gold version, four stainless steel Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 watches and a matching 18ct rose gold version, three dial colours for the new stainless steel Navitimer B01 Chronograph 41 models and a rose gold version, a special deep green-coloured dial version of the steel Navitimer Automatic 41 watch with an engraved caseback, and lastly, a lady’s steel Navitimer Automatic 35 model with a mint green dial and engraved caseback. It’s the latter we’re going to look at in this article.
Breitling has been clear in terms of its focus with the release of this newly-designed Navitimer watch series for 2022. The chronographs, powered by an in-house developed movement, boast a 5-year warranty and feature the familiar trio of chronograph counters placed in the 3-6-9 layout, whilst the Navitimer Automatic watches in sizes of 41mm for the gentleman and 35mm for the lady are powered by the Calibre 17 and feature, along with the chronographs, a reworked slide rule bezel and a domed sapphire crystal glass front to create an all-round more compact feel on the wrist. Breitling has successfully retained all the popular traits of the much-loved Navitimer but presents the new models in an array of colours, including the fresh mint tones of this new 35mm women’s Navitimer watch.
Coinciding with the release of these new 2022 Navitimer watches, Breitling promotes the range with a new Navitimer squad comprising basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland, and aviation pioneer and explorer Bertrand Piccard. Relating to Breitling’s sheer courage and its unwavering determination to bring a whole new level of success to these newly-designed Navitimer watches, Misty Copeland extends on what it means to become part of Breitling’s NAVITIMER—FOR THE JOURNEY campaign:
“This project means a lot to me because it celebrates not only where I was in life, but where I’d come from and where I am going. There is an absolute parallel between navigating towards a physical destination and navigating towards the vision of where you want to be in life. You’ll see that theme come through in these three stories.”
In the past, stainless steel Navitimer Automatic watches have always served as an entry point into the Navitimer collection, so this new model comes as a very welcomed addition to the new series. Over the past 70 years, Breitling has upped its game in the field of pilot’s tools, evolving to meet the needs of the Navitimer’s audience and giving fans exactly what they want, whether that be in the way of changing its size, fitting it with a different movement, or indeed, inventing a new range of dial colours. During the 60s, the Navitimer was outfitted with an automatic movement to reduce the production costs of the watch and to remain in keeping with the more affordable price point of the quartz-powered watch, which at the time, had started to dominate the industry. Even whilst the Navitimer was growing in size, reaching up to a diameter of 48mm, its most classic 41mm models had been offered in an automatic version by this time. The new Breitling Navitimer watches for 2022 extend on the brand’s quest for bold and eye-catching colours with this new mint green dial iteration.
The new Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35 watch
Before now, the Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35 watch for women has been offered in a range of dial options, perhaps none more notable than the stunning mother of pearl dial with diamond dot indexes and an elegant pink alligator leather strap. For 2022, Breitling configures the model with a fresh mint green coloured dial, surrounded by the watch’s iconic beaded bezel – this time with a flatter design – and a beautiful domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front. The rest of the dial remains faithful to the popular style of the women’s Navitimer watch, with stick indexes around the hour track and a set of slender central hour and minute hands that have been treated with Super-LumiNova for assisting with timekeeping in the dark.
The central second hand is identified by a red arrow tip, as is its male counterpart – the Breitling Navitimer Automatic 41 watch with a deep green dial that we covered in more detail here. Red markings also identify some of the integral markings of the slide rule bezel scale, like the number 10 which assists with multiplication and division calculations. The slide rule bezel, after all, is one of the key features of the Navitimer watch and was first developed back in the early 1950s when Willy Breitling adopted the concept of the logarithmic bezel belonging to the Chronomat watch and incorporated it into this classic pilot’s chronograph design. Ever since then, the Navitimer has been a huge success, not just for professional pilots but for modern-day Breitling collectors with a love for refined complication watches.
The new Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35 watch is a 35mm stainless steel model with a case executed in a mix of polished and brushed finishes. It offers 30-meter water resistance and features a beautifully engraved caseback depicting Breitling’s winged logo upon its surface. The closed caseback conceals the performance of the Breitling 17 – an automatic calibre based on the ETA 2824-2 movement. It provides a 42-hour power reserve and beats at a rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and has also been equipped with a quick date set complication at 6 o’clock.
The new women’s Breitling Navitimer 35 watch comes fitted on a deep brown alligator leather strap with a Breitling-engraved stainless steel folding clasp. Alternatively, the model can be purchased on a 7-row stainless steel bracelet, securing with a butterfly clasp.
