Cyrus Releases New Klepcys GMT Retrograde Watches in Ocean Blue and Palm Green
Thursday - 20 April 2023
At the Watches & Wonders event 2023 in Geneva, over 40 world-renowned luxury watch brands came together under one roof in an event that comprised a series of celebrations over the course of a week. Here, they unveiled the masterpieces they had been working on in anticipation of the opening of the event. One brand attending was Cyrus, who has also released a new variant of its Klepcys DICE Lime watch, which you can check out in more detail here in this article. The new model has been crafted from grade 5 titanium and black carbon fibre and features an open-worked dial that exposes the intricate details of its movement at work. The new DICE Lime Carbon watch stands for Double Independent Chronograph Evolution and, unlike a rattrapante chronograph, features two hands that can be utilised independently of each other or simultaneously depending on the wearer’s requirements. The crown and pushers can be operated under the fingers for instant and seamless timing, proving useful for situations where two competitors are timed during a race that begins at the same time. Accompanying this model is the new Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde watch in Ocean Blue and Palm green, specially deigned for those who frequently travel.
The new Klepcys GMT Retrograde watches now combine a travel-friendly dual time function with a new metal bracelet that elevates their design. The addition of the metal band enables you to step off a flight and attend an important meeting straight away without having to think about changing your wristwatch to suit the occasion. The Swiss brand, which was founded back in 2010 in Le Locle expands its GMT range within the Klepcys collection with these two eye-catching Ocean Blue and Palm Green colours - each exclusive to just 38 pieces worldwide. These limited edition watches are defined by their striking colours and each feature the instantly recognisable cushion-shaped case crafted from lightweight titanium.
The dual-crowned design of the new Klepcys GMT Retrograde watch
The new limited edition Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde watches in Ocean Blue and Palm Green measure a diameter of 42mm and the surface of their cases boast a combination of satin-brushed and polished finishes. The two functional crowns at 3 and 9 o’clock on the side of the case have been equipped with a grey rubber ring that is square-patterned and textured to assist with an easy grip. The crowns have also been adorned with the brand’s logo. The 3 o’clock crown can be actioned to wind the movement, whilst the 9 o’clock crown features a push button that moves the second time zone hand to set local time, jumping one hour forwards each time.
An ergonomically shaped case and legible dial
Despite an open-worked dial, the main hour track of the new Klepcys GMT Retrograde watch is kept simple and easy to read with white Arabic numerals that are set against the Ocean Blue and Palm Green dials. The colour plays a starring role in this new design, whilst a cushion-shaped case crafted from titanium nods to a more contemporary style on the wrist. The elongated lugs of the case also add to the watch’s unconventional character. The case features a total of 26 individual parts to ergonomically shape better to the wrist.
Inside the cushion-shaped titanium case of each model is the Calibre CYR708 mechanical engine. The beating heart operates at a total of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features a variable inertia balance wheel. It also provides a total power reserve of 55 hours thanks to a single winding barrel and decorative brushed finishing that is showcased through the front of the dial. Anglage techniques and NAC-treated surfaces can also be appreciated through the dial, with embossed rays and an alternating brushed finish alongside micro-blasted flat rays. An open-worked oscillating mass has soleil detailing and has been engraved with the brand’s motto. These features interact beautifully with the light whilst an ALD-coated rotor is executed in the same colour as the respective Palm Green or Ocean Blue colours, depending on the model.
An inner 24-hour feature situated at the centre of the dial in the new Klepcys GMT Retrograde watch is what makes these two Cyrus watches so special. Set against a matte opaline-grey arched edge, a second time zone can be tracked easily and legibly thanks to a triangular motif upon the top of the hand. Experts at Cyrus have treated the details of this track with Super-LumiNova material, whilst the Arabic numerals have been combined with dots to read home time at any point throughout the day or night. At the 6 o’clock location on the dial, you can refer to the small seconds function, embellished with a triangular motif Helix-shaped hand that nods to the brand’s logo. This is yet another dial element that adds a sense of layers, depth, clever proportions and a skilled use of colour to the design.
Pairing this new Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde watch with formal, elegant and causal attire is a synch thanks to a grey Cordura strap and contrast stitching that matches the colour shots on the dial. You can also opt for the model on a stylish titanium bracelet with mixed brushed and polished hexagonal links.
