With so many incredible innovations under their belt, Chronoswiss truly epitomise the meaning of quality Swiss craftsmanship. Their creative and experimental impulses have enchanted luxury watch collectors all over the world, so it is to no surprise that so many are desperate to find out what the Swiss watch manufacturer is launching for 2021. Let’s get started and look at all the new Chronoswiss 2021 Watches & Wonders releases…
Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear Pink Panther Limited Edition
Chronoswiss are no strangers to experimenting with colour and with the new Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear Pink Panther Limited Edition, baby pink brings the spotlight. The Flying Regulator Open Gear model has come in many dial guises including guilloche in bright green and yellow, but no other has quite captured our attention quite like the pink. Contrasting delightfully against the 41mm black DLC coated stainless steel case, the dial celebrates the centuries old technique of hand guilloche which involves using a machine operating on high amplitude and applies the unique pattern upon the surface in short lengths to create a shimmering chessboard effect. The inspiration behind the shade of pink used for the design of the new Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear Pink Panther Limited Edition spans back to the mid-18th where pink was associated with masculinity and class.
The rest of the design follows suit to previous Regulator Open Gear models we have seen containing hallmarks like the knurled bezel, complex multiple-piece case construction and unmistakable strap holders integrated by their renowned patent. The engine running the new Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear Pink Panther watch is the automatic stop-second calibre C.299. Designed inhouse by the brand, the movement ensures an impressive performance of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 42 hours. The three wheels governing the hour hand are exposed through the dial side which doubles up as a module board for the regulator. Protecting the movement is scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass and a 16-piece case construction promising a water resistant rating of 100 metres. The Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear Pink Panther watch is a limited edition of 50 pieces and retails at £8,200.
Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba Limited Edition
Another beautiful example of Chronoswiss’ prowess with hand guilloche, the new Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba Limited Edition brings to life an unmissable colour-shifting dial. Achieved using a short-wave guilloche pattern and nano-decorative CVD coating, the turquoise dial reminds us of the scales of a fish, shifting in colour every time you move your wrist changing from light to dark blue, to green and even purple. The watch’s name, however, is taken from the Paraiba tourmaline gemstone, one of the rarest gemstones in the world which shares a similar iridescence. The rest of the dial has the same multi-dimensional regulator setup as other Open Gear ReSec models with the upper level showcasing screw on skeletonised train wheel bridges and funnel-like construction for hour display. At 6 o’clock, retrograde seconds can be found.
Powering these complications is the in-house automatic C. 301 calibre which like the watch above beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and ensures a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is put on display through the exhibition case back which allows you to see the skeletonised rotor, which like the dial, has been treated with a turquoise CVD coating. The case of the Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba Limited Edition is engineered from a total of 17 pieces made from stainless steel with satin-polished finishing. Measuring to 44mm in size, it is sealed by anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass and equipped with the company’s patented Autobloc system to work in conjunction with the movement’s Incabloc shock protection system. The case also promises a 100 metre water resistance and secures to the wrist by a black hornback crocodile leather strap. The Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba is a limited edition of 50 pieces and retails at £8,400.
Chronoswiss SkelTec Azur Limited Edition
Last up in Chronoswiss’ 2021 Watches & Wonders line up is the Chronoswiss SkelTec Azur Limited Edition. Since its release, the SkelTec collection has been celebrated for its reduced, handwinding movements displayed on the dial front with an unmissable open balance wheel. Once again, the new Chronoswiss SkelTec Azur Limited Edition is a crescendo of horological prowess teased through the skeletonised dial revealing the sensually ticking mechanics within. The 166-part hand-wound C. 304 movement features a unique X-shaped monobloc construction vertically aligning the timekeeping complications with the open balance wheel all while surrounded by a new royal blue colourway. The shade of blue has been inspired by Cleopatra’s eyeshadow, which in the past, was achieved by pulverising the mineral azurite with oil. For the dial of the Chronoswiss SkelTec Azur Limited Edition, the Lucerne-based ateliers uses chemical vapour disposition for an unmissable burst of colour.
The in-house movement delivers a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a power reserve of 42 hours and 21 jewels, some of which are displayed through the openwork dial and exhibition case back. The progressive design of the dial applies also to the case of the Chronoswiss SkelTec Azur Limited Edition watch. Engineered from stainless steel and coated in black DLC, the case measures to 45mm in diameter and 15.15mm in height with a striking blue CVD coated bezel, screws and back ring. The case is constructed from 51 parts in total including curved, double coated anti-reflective crystal glass and a screw down case back water resistant to 50 metres. Like the case, the lugs are hollowed out, executed with a sand-blasted matte finish and fitted to a two-toned strap crafted from black calfskin leather and black textile. The new Chronoswiss SkelTec Azur watch is a limited edition of 50 pieces and retails at £18,800.
