Bremont Welcomes the S300 Kaimu Watch
Wednesday - 01 March 2023
The Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch is inspired by the black volcanic sands stretching the Hawaiian coastline and offers several dive-ready features without losing any of its classic aeronautical spirit.
If you’re a Bremont-loving gent with a small wrist size, you must have been pretty over the moon when in 2017, Bremont announced it was releasing the S300 Supermarine watch in a more compact 40mm size. Correct? It did, after all, have a lot of other stuff going for it. Take the bezel-to-dial ratio for instance, or its neat lug-to-lug dimensions. Even its height, in fact. The list goes on. These are all traditional dive watch propositions. Things that really make a difference when it comes to wearing a dive watch as a daily beater. Over the years, Bremont has been able to build upon the S300 watch design because of its classic design. This brings me to the Bremont S300 Kaimu watch released last year. Before I go into further detail, let’s outline the key features of this watch and why it makes such a great addition to any collection
The best features of the Bremont S300 Kaimu watch
- A case built from the company’s Trip-Tick construction
- A compact 40mm case size
- A design inspired by the black sands of Kaimu Beach
- A reliable 300-meter water-resistant case for plenty of underwater action
- A movement that runs within COSC Chronometer specifications
- A classic dive watch design
Although the Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch stems from a collection that has deep aviation roots, it also comfortably stretches into the classic dive watch genre. The aircraft (the Supermarine planes) that these S300 watches were first dedicated to were all developed in the 1930s, which explains why the dial of the recently released Bremont S300 Kaimu watch has a distinct 1930s vibe going on, what with its rose gold-plated hands and hour markers. I think here, the true versatility of the S300 Supermarine watch as a core design can really be appreciated, just by how easily Bremont has managed to elevate this timepiece to give it a more dressy feel without losing any of its important character.
The Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch has an engraved ceramic bezel. This style dates back to the 1950s and frames a dial inspired by the dramatic black volcanic sand that stretches up the beach of the Puna District. The ocean’s current and its waves make it too strong for snorkelling or swimming, adding to its dramatic and interesting atmosphere, particularly since the beach is going through a continuous cycle of destruction and rebirth after the shoreline was hit by the eruption of the Kilauea volcano in 1990. Now the location is being supported by locals and visitors planting sprouted coconuts in order to revitalise the local habitat and replace its lost vegetation, restoring the area to its former beauty. Upon this black metal dial is a set of rose gold plated applied indexes and hands that have been filled with Super-LumiNova. These hands and indexes glow in a rich blue emission at night and in dark conditions. The luminous material glows at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock locations whilst the dial ring features the minutes in golden hues.
The Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch is water-resistant to 300 meters and features a screw-down crown and a scratch-resistant PVD-treated case middle inside a stainless steel case measuring a diameter of 40mm. The unidirectional rotating bezel in black ceramic provides clear and legible 60-minute scale markings to read whilst underwater and whilst measuring elapsed time. Polished raised markers and a luminous dot complete the bezel’s design, matching with the circular pip on the tip of the dial’s central second hand. In addition to these details, the textured centre of the dial is accompanied by a date window at 3 o’clock, the Supermarine lettering above the 6 o’clock location and, of course, the Bremont logo at 12 o’clock. The back of the case of this Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch is also specially engraved, depicting a pattern that looks similar to a wave effect or, in this case, a sandy beach pattern.
The 40mm Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch is powered by the Calibre BE-92AV, which provides a useful 38-hour power reserve and beats at a rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour. It also comprises a total of 25 jewels and features an Anachron balance spring, a Nivaflex mainspring and a Glucydur balance wheel.
You can enjoy the Bremont S300 Supermarine Kaimu watch on a robust stainless steel bracelet with a Bremont-engraved folding clasp.
