Breitling Unveils Six New Premier Heritage B01 Chronograph 42 Watches
Tuesday - 21 March 2023
The six new Breitling Premier Heritage Chronograph 42 watches come in green, black, blue, cream or a salmon option, with robust stainless steel cases, or a more luxurious 18ct rose gold version with a cream dial. This special new release adds to the popular Premier Heritage Collection and celebrates the timelessness of the Breitling Chronograph that has shaped the brand’s iconic history.
Cast your mind back to 2021, when Breitling released six new models belonging to a collection named the Premier Heritage. They were arranged into three categories: the Chronograph, the Datora and the Duograph. All models were COSC-certified as chronometers and all featured syringe-style period-inspired hands that pointed to Arabic numeral hour markers for telling the time. The Chronograph is one of the most celebrated complications by Breitling because the complexity of the mechanism is the work of the Breitling family and was showcased to its full potential when Willy Breitling launched the Premier collection, celebrating several different chronograph models that carefully blended functionality with style. The Maison released the Vitesse pocket watch in 1906 – a device capable of measuring up to 150kph. This device supposedly assisted the police with tracking speeders and issuing speed tickets. In 1915, the first wrist-worn chronograph was released. It came equipped with a push-piece at 2 o’clock. Just 8 years later and Garston Breitling decided to separate the start and stop functions with an independent 4 o’clock pusher – an arrangement that is still used as the norm today.
The Breitling watches released as part of the 2021 Premier Heritage Collection were all powered by a Breitling Manufacture movement that featured vertical coupling and a column wheel to assist with smoother performance. Amongst these models was a stainless steel watch with a pistachio green dial and a watch from the Duograph series with a ratrappante function that allowed for two separate chronograph central seconds hands that measured two elapsed periods of time together. The Datora release offered a more luxurious option in an 18ct rose gold case, as well as a stainless steel model and displayed the day and the month in two separate apertures below the 12 o’clock location, as well as a pointer date feature and a moon phase function.
Today, the return of the Breitling Premier watch is marked by six new models that are all powered by the Breitling Calibre 01 – an in-house manufactured engine. The new models revive the dream first envisaged by Willy Breitling of offering a functional yet elegant chronograph that was also incredibly comfortable to wear. To bring these six models to life, Breitling brings vintage Premier design details to the forefront of these new instruments. Some of these features include a smooth fixed bezel, a set of rectangular pushers and a set of Arabic numeral hour markers. Whereas the existing manual winding B09 models featured a 40mm diameter, these new releases are slightly larger, coming in at a 42mm diameter. The watches feature tone-on-tone chronograph sub-dials and are released in colours of green, blue, salmon, black and cream, with a more luxurious offering in 18ct rose gold with a cream dial. Each of these models features a small second sub-dial at 9 o’clock, as well as a 30-minute sub-counter. Balancing the display at 3 o’clock, these chronograph sub-counters are accompanied by a central seconds chronograph hand and a surrounding tachymeter scale that frames these features. The models also feature a date window nestled in between both sub-counters to balance the display.
Whether you’re looking at the indulgent 18ct rose gold variation of the new Breitling Premier Heritage Chronograph B01 42 watches or the more classic stainless steel models – all options evoke that all-important vintage charm that Breitling wants to enliven within these stylish chronographs. The watches all have an open caseback feature crafted from sapphire crystal glass that enables you to watch the Manufacture Calibre 01 as it performs peerlessly within a 100-meter water-resistant housing. As aforementioned, the watches have a smooth fixed bezel but also a grooved side case that reinvigorates models from a bygone era. The top of each watch is secured with a piece of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass that has been treated with anti-reflective material. The new Breitling Premier Heritage Chronograph 42 watches also come with a five-year warranty and come displayed inside genuine Breitling presentation boxes with full warranty and instructions.
Whilst the cream, green, salmon and blue models all come with an option of a brown alligator leather strap or a 7-link stainless steel Navitimer bracelet, the black dial version can be worn on a black alligator leather strap or the sophisticated 7-link stainless steel Navitimer bracelet. The leather band option comes on a Breitling engraved folding clasp, whereas the steel bracelet can be secured to the underside of the wrist with a butterfly clasp.
