Breitling Launches Chronomat GMT and Super Chronomat 38 Diamond Watches

Swiss watch manufacturer, Breitling has released a compact and practical GMT version of the Chronomat watch with a range of dial colours to choose from, as well as a green and blue diamond-set Super Chronomat 38 watch available on a choice of strap options.
It might surprise some Breitling fans, but the Chronomat actually spans back over 70 years. Its distinctive design was worn during the Second World War but was redesigned in 1984 when its slide rule bezel was taken out and the watch was given many unique features like a set of rider tabs on the cardinal points of the bezel, as well as an onion-shaped crown. But in 2020, Breitling revisited the line, releasing a selection of timepieces that looked as close as ever to the original 1984 model. These were equipped with a Rouleaux bracelet, giving the sports watch a dressier feel, as well as adjustable rider tabs that could be swapped over at the 15 and 45 locations, depending on whether a count-up or count-down feature was required. Some of the most popular versions of the Chronomat series include the chronograph iterations and GMT complications powered by in-house calibres. Breitling also released a super-charged breed of the Chronomat, named the Super Chronomat, with a more aggressive, bolder look. To mark 2022, Breitling has released four new Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 watches in black, white, blue and green dial colours. These practically-sized wristwatches accompany two new ladies' Breitling Super Chronomat Automatic 38 diamond-set watches on a choice of a Rouleaux stainless steel bracelet, a Rouleaux-style rubber band, or an alligator leather strap.
The new Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 watches
The Chronomat GMT watch is Breitling’s travel-friendly companion. Its sporty aesthetic is endorsed by an incredibly robust stainless steel case with a matching steel bracelet. The rolling links of the Rouleaux bracelet evoke a dressy and elegant finish upon the wrist, whilst the steel bezel with the iconic four rider tabs helps to frame a new dial choice of white, black, blue or green. A vivid red-coloured arrow-tipped GMT hand parades the dial, sweeping over the surface of the display with ease and referencing a tone-on-tone 24-hour scale around the periphery. The hour markers and central hour and minute hands have all been filled with luminous material for effortless timekeeping in dark conditions, whilst in the daytime, an anti-glare sapphire crystal glass front helps to protect the dial from reflection and damage.
Each dial of the new Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 watch is equipped with a legible date window at 6 o’clock. Inside the case of each model is the Calibre 32. The movement provides a 42-hour power reserve whilst protected inside the Chronomat’s 200-meter water-resistant case. Flip the case over and although you don’t get to contemplate this movement whilst it performs its 28,800 oscillations per hour, you do get the space to have a special message engraved upon its screwed-in caseback.
The new Breitling Super Chronomat Automatic 38 diamond-set watches
Released alongside the four new Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 watches are two new dial options for the ladies’ Super Chronomat 38 range. For the first time, Breitling has decorated these elegant timepieces with a selection of round brilliant-cut lab-grown diamonds upon the bezel. The four points around the bezel at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock feature a ceramic-filled section in a colour to match their respective dials in mint green or ice blue. These design elements run into the design of the crown, which also features a colour-matching ceramic decoration.
The Mint Green and Ice Blue dial options of the new Super Chronomat Automatic 38 watches each offer something a little different. The Ice Blue iteration is more contemporary, whilst the Mint Green version subtly suggests a touch of retro charm. The baton indexes around the hour track of the dial and the central hour and minute hands have been treated with luminous material, whilst the date window at 6 o’clock remains crisp and clear against a white background. The mint green watch is crafted from a mix of stainless steel and 18t rose gold. Diamonds are carefully set into the surface of an 18ct rose gold bezel and the metal bracelet is a bi-colour design, combining a mix of rose gold and steel. The ice blue dial option is paired with an all-steel case design, including the Rouleaux bracelet option.
The new Super Chronomat Automatic 38 watches are powered by the Breitling 17 movement, which offers a 45-hour power reserve and features a quick set date mechanism. This option enables you to rapidly change the date by pulling put the crown without affecting the time. Both models are also offered on a choice of a matching green or blue Rouleaux-style rubber band and a blue or green alligator leather strap. Similar to the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 watches, these Super Chronomat 38 diamond-set watches also feature a screwed-in caseback that promises plenty of space for an engraved message.
