Breitling 2021 Watch Releases

The Watches & Wonders 2021 event has deflected the curve balls thrown at it and offered us some astounding new Breitling watch releases this year. For two years running, Breitling has launched its new releases via its Web Summit, unveiling an incredible assortment of timepieces from its most popular collections to date, this time accompanied by a brand-new heritage-inspired line.

Remember when Georges Kern assumed leadership over Breitling back in 2017? He stuck his flag well and truly into the sand with the launch of the Premier collection. Since then, the company has been focussing on very grown-up watches. Complex watches with purpose. Thoughtful, detailed watches with premium finishes, many of which are built around in-house calibres. The good news is that four years on we are still seeing new inaugural timepieces being released from the famous Swiss watchmaker, including spin-offs of said Premier collection, like the new Premier Heritage line. Also – Breitling has focussed on women’s watches, injected with a zest of colour, clad in precious gemstones – the Chronomat 36 Southsea Capsule collection. Let’s not forget also, the three new Super Chronomat watches; the Breitling Super Chronomat B01 44, the Super Chronomat 44 B01 UTC and the Super Chronomat 44 Four-Year Calendar watch. In addition to this, Breitling released the new Navitimer Automatic 41 watch

Breitling Chronomat South Sea Capsule Collection

It may be a surprise to learn that Breitling has been developing women’s watches since 1940. In fact, the new Chronomat South Sea Capsule watches are a modern take on one of these earlier designs. The three new lacquered dial variants come in tones of pearly beige, midnight blue and mint green – each adorned with golden indexes tipped with a scintillating diamond. They’re also fitted with the Breitling Calibre 10 – a COSC-certified movement. A mix of cocktail-hued gemstones is set into a 36mm bezel, spanning a graduated colour spectrum of orange shades through to yellow, light pink and finally, purple. Georges Kern extends:

“This colourful and exclusive new capsule collection – to be produced for a limited time only – is aimed at more fashion-forward women of action, purpose, and style”.

The new Breitling Chronomat South Sea Capsule collection watches comprise the model ref: A10380611A1P1 with beige dial and tan alligator leather strap, the mint green dial and matching green alligator leather model ref; A10380611L1P1 and watch ref: A10380611C1P1 with a blue dial and blue alligator leather strap.

Breitling Navitimer Automatic 41

The new Breitling Navitimer Automatic 41 watch certainly pays homage to vintage Breitling watches from the 1950s. Some faithful design language is present in the model, such as the red-coated second hand and the “B” motif counterweight. The ref: A17326161C1A1 also features the iconic beaded bezel with a slide rule function for assisting with a myriad of pilot-related calculations, as well as a compact 41mm steel case and a reliable automatic movement powering away on the inside. To complete its dressy style credentials, the new Breitling Navitimer Automatic 41mm watch elevates the wrist with a stainless steel link bracelet and is powered by the Breitling 17 COSC-certified movement, concealed behind the esteemed Breitling logo engraved onto the watch’s caseback.

Next, let’s take a look at the new Breitling Super Chronomat releases for 2021…

Breitling Super Chronomat B01 44

Now, the Super Chronomat B01 44 watch is available in three dial variants; classic black, traditional blue and vintage brown. The 44mm black and blue models are both available on a stainless steel Rouleaux bracelet or a black or blue Rouleaux-inspired rubber strap, while the brown dial option imparts a more luxurious and indulgent aesthetic, encased within 18ct rose gold. Equipped with an in-house Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01, the new Super Chronomat B01 44 watches are adorned with coloured inserts on their unidirectional rotating bezel for the first time and promise a 200-meter water resistant case with a front and back anti-glare sapphire crystal glass lens. These models remain faithful to some integral characteristics of the famed Chronomat line, namely the rider tabs on said bezel and the roll-like links of the Rouleaux bracelet, designed exclusively for the Chronomat series.

Breitling Super Chronomat 44 B01 UTC

This stainless steel UTC model ref: AB0136251B1A2 from the new Chronomat 44 series for 2021 features an independent UTC dial, uniquely embedded into the watch’s steel bracelet, governed by its very own quartz movement. The 44mm chronograph watch itself, however, is designed in the familiar 3-6-9 layout on a black dial, along with Super-LumiNova filled hands and indexes to match the additional UTC dial. This isn’t the first time Breitling has utilized this UTC second time zone concept, however. An original model was released in the 80s, offering the wearer a unique and innovative way to keep track of two time zones whilst travelling. Both dials are treated with Super-LumiNova accents for timekeeping in the dark, whilst the Chronomat 44 Chronograph watch is powered by the Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01, promising a useful 70-hour power reserve to keep precise time alongside the quartz-powered UTC dial during periods spent off the wrist.

Breitling Super Chronomat 44 Four-Year Calendar

This Four-Year Calendar watch from the Super Chronomat 44 series is a semi-perpetual mechanism that only requires adjustment once every four years on the leap year. A black dial with a 44mm steel and 18ct rose gold case with matching bracelet ref; I19320251B1A1 does well to impart a luxurious finish on the wrist, as does the blue dial version ref: U19320161C1U1. Alternatively, both models come on a supple Rouleaux-inspired rubber strap too – ref: I19320251B1S1 for the black dial variant and ref: U19320161C1S1 for the blue dial. All variants are powered by the Breitling Calibre 19, which offers a practical 42-hour power reserve.

Finally, let’s take a look at the new Premier Heritage collection…

The new Premier Heritage collection by Breitling is an assortment of 6 striking vintage-inspired timepieces that pay homage to the brand’s Founders Squad – Leon, Gaston and Willy Breitling. Equipped with period-style syringe hands, Arabic numerals and chronometer-rated movements, the range tips its hat to models from 1943 in particular and comprises the Chronograph, the Datora and the Duograph.

Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph 40

This model, in particular, pays homage to Leon Breitling who founded the company in 1884 and patented the well-utilized tachymeter scale, which was fitted to the Vitesse Pocket Watch in 1906. The new 40mm Chronograph B09 watches feature a bi-compax dial with a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, balanced by a small second sub-counter at 9 o’clock. There are two models – a pistachio green dial on a light brown leather strap version ref: AB0930D31L1P1 and a silver dial and 18ct rose gold version on a dark brown leather strap ref: RB0930371G1P1. Both are powered by the Calibre 09 movement which churns out a useful 70-hour power reserve and both watches share a 100-meter water resistance.

Breitling Premier B15 Duograph 42

Reinterpreting the classic split-second rattrapante watch from the 1940s, the 42mm Breitling Premier B15 Duograph 42 bears superimposed hands and an integrated pusher at the 3 o’clock crown. This enables the chronograph seconds hand to be split and re-joined as opposed to the need for a 10 o’clock pusher. Effortless facilitating of the chronograph function is also granted with the design of the polished push-pieces. Put simply, the pusher at 2 o’clock activates both the chronograph hands, the crown button stops the second hand and then catches up to the other hand once pushed again. The model comes in an inky black and rose gold case variant ref: RB1510251B1P1 and a steel case and sunburst blue dial iteration ref: AB1510171C1P1. Both are powered by Breitling reliable B01 movement.

Breitling Premier B25 Datora 42

Last but not least is the Breitling Premier B25 Datora 42 – a classic calendar and moon phase complication available in a copper or silver dial colour. The copper dial is combined with a classic steel case ref: AB2510201K1P1, while the silver dial is enveloped in shades of 18ct rose gold ref: RB2510371G1P1. Both models are styled on a traditional dark brown alligator leather strap and measure a 42mm diameter, whilst at the heart of each case lies the Breitling Manufacture Calibre B25. The COSC-certified self-winding engine performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 48-hour power reserve. Appealing to fans of vintage Breitling watches from a bygone era, the Premier B25 Datora 42 watch, like the other timepieces from the heritage Premier collection, is imbued with a strong sense of character and matched equally by a set of sophisticated functions.
