Bell and Ross BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze Limited Edition Watch
Monday - 04 May 2020
Most notable for their square timepieces, Bell & Ross have unveiled a stunning addition to their Vintage BR Aéronavale collection with a classic round case that subtly reflects the esteemed ceremonial uniforms of French naval officers. The Bell and Ross BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze Limited Edition comes beautifully dressed in bronze and blue and it might just be one of our favourite round chronograph watches the brand has ever produced!
Like most of the BR V2 watches from the Swiss manufacturer, the Bell and Ross BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze watch comes with a special type of elastic fabric strap which secures to the wrist by a small hook. This design is often referred to as an “MN” strap, short for Marine Nationale, which refers to the French Navy and the fact such straps were originally made from parachute webbing by French Navy personnel. The blue strap matches perfectly with the blue metallic dial inspired by the colours of the French Navy’s dress uniform while the bronze case and gold plated hands and markers reflect the colour of the buttons and embroidery.
The trend of bronze watches is staying strong within the industry and its easy to see why when brands like Bell and Ross are releasing designs like this. The case of the Bell and Ross BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze Limited Edition is engineered from CuAI7Si2 bronze, otherwise known as aluminium bronze for its alloy that’s almost all copper, save for 7% aluminium and 2% silicon. The beauty of bronze comes from its distinctive characteristic to age and change colour over time. When exposed to moisture in the air and pH levels in perspiration, the bronze will develop a natural patina meaning there will be 999 limited edition pieces of this Bell & Ross BR V2-94 Aeronavale watch with a unique case bespoke to its wearer.
The case of the Bell and Ross BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze Limited Edition measures to 41mm in size and is fitted with an anodized fixed blue aluminium bezel with a 60 minute scale around its edge. The case is also fitted with a bronze screw down crown, bronze push buttons and a steel case back with a sapphire crystal insert which allows you a glimpse into automatic winding movement within. Each of these technologies help assist in the watch’s water resistant rating of 100 metres.
Powering the automatic winding movement is the BR-CAL.301 calibre based on ETA 2894-2. The Swiss made calibre provides hours, minutes, small seconds at 3 o'clock, date, chronograph 30-minute timer at 9 o'clock, central chronograph seconds and a power reserve of 42 hours. Each of these functions are displayed beautifully on the blue sunray dial decorated with gilded and polished numerals and indices and satin-polished and gilded skeleton Superluminova filled hour and minute hands. For optimal scratch resistance and easy legibility, the dial is protected by sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment.
