A Look at the New Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete

If you loved the Garmin Epix series, maybe own the Fenix 7 or Fenix 6 and enjoyed the functionality of the original MARQ series, you’re going to love the new MARQ II watches. One of the five new releases is the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete watch, launched alongside the Garmin MARQ 2 Adventurer, the MARQ 2 Captain, MARQ 2 Aviator, and MARQ 2 Golfer. Today, we’re going in-depth with the new MARQ 2 Athlete – the ultimate modern tool watch for pushing boundaries, tracking fitness levels and breaking limits with.

The innovative, ground-breaking design of the MARQ 2 series, now with additional software devised for travel-oriented individuals and improved hardware features, draws from the original MARQ series of smartwatches and advances forward under the Garmin Epix platform. It offers many, many features seen in the Fenix 7 and now offers a new extra-responsive AMOLED display. The changes in the hardware and outward design of the new Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete include the case material, buttons and a new charging port/cable that promises a much faster-charging rate, whilst improved battery power enables you to venture further, wider and longer with the Athlete strapped comfortably to your wrist.

What’s new in the MARQ 2 watch?

The new Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete, like its new siblings, is now more scratch resistant and has been crafted from grade 5 titanium with added vanadium and aluminium. The ceramic inlay in the bezel is also scratch resistant and is designed to keep its colour longer. Its new USB-C based charging cable with a new charging port takes only an hour to fully charge compared to existing Fenix 7 and the Epix series smartwatches. The watch also features a full-colour, crisp AMOLED display protected by a sapphire glass surface and now integrates a singular new software feature – the Jetlag Advisor.

Perfectly tailored to those who frequently travel on business or for leisure, the new Jetlag Advisor feature enables the wearer to balance light exposure with a devised sleep schedule and an exercise plan that can be followed to minimise the unwanted effects of jetlag whilst travelling from one country to another. Additionally, the MARQ 2 Athlete also features multi-band GNSS with integrated SatIQ™ technology that will secure the very best accuracy no matter where in the world you are. A new and improved battery life of up to 16 days compared to its former 12-day battery power (as well as 21 days in Battery Saver Mode, 75 hours in Max Battery GPS mode, or 14 days in the Expedition GPS mode) delivers a significant update to this new model.

The new pre-loaded TopoActive mapping feature on the MARQ 2 Athlete watch, along with the NextFork™ feature helps you to see your distance to the next trail intersection, as well as the name of the upcoming trail, whilst performance metrics, training load and the ability to track endurance and stamina are made super easy once configured to its compatible sensor. Garmin Pay™ contactless payments1, wrist-based heart rate2, daily activity tracking2, sleep monitoring2 and smart notifications³ are all still available in the new model, which is compatible with Apple® and Android™ devices. The rubber strap with QuickFit® mechanism enables you to change the strap over quickly before heading out of the door, whilst the watch’s many built-in sports apps enable you to track personal bests at the gym effortlessly. Behind the scenes, Garmin is tracking a mindboggling amount of metrics for you. Some of these include steps taken, heart rate, stair-climbing, Vo2max readings, breathing rates, and PulseOx stats.
