The confident automatic-powered Formula 1 Senna Special Edition watch by TAG Heuer follows in the footsteps of the recently released quartz-powered model, launched earlier this year. The admired and adored legendary racing driver’s spirit is kept alive through this new sporty-looking chronograph, with a fast, fearless and brilliant design.
By redefining the meaning of the word “drive”, Ayrton Senna began sporting the TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch on his wrist in 1988, two years after the initial collection was released. Throughout his career, this long-standing partnership underscored the famous driver’s racing spirit and his World Championship wins throughout the years 1988, 1989 and 1991. Embodying his lasting influence in the world of motorsport, the new Formula 1 Senna Special Edition watch is launched, once again, in collaboration with the Senna Foundation and focuses on the colour red – a reference to Ayrton Senna’s original watch. Mixed with black and anthracite, the red hints of colour also promote a strong sense of sportiness, highlighting all the functional elements of this TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch perfectly.
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition watch
The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition watch for 2022 celebrates the life and career of the Brazilian driver via a 44mm stainless steel case integrated with a water-resistant rating of 200 meters. Its muscular physique is inspired by the earlier TAG Heuer Autavia watch of the 1970s, boasting a continuous curve that stretches from one lug tip to another. Red accents across the architecture of the new Senna special edition watch can be seen in the 2 o’clock pusher, the crown and the Brazilian driver’s double S logo at 12 o’clock on the black brushed ceramic bezel. At 6 o’clock, a customized red S logo is seen across a black azurage surface on the 12-hour totaliser dial, whilst the small seconds dial at 9 o’clock and 30-minute counter continue with red injections of colour. White numerals pop against the watch’s anthracite brushed sunray dial and accompany the white background of the date aperture at 3 o’clock, trimmed in red. A black flange runs around the outside of the dial, depicting the minutes and seconds, whilst the inner track displays the hour batons coated with white Super-LumiNova. These rhodium-plated polished hands match those of the smaller sub-dials, all held by a white 60-minute scale set on a black bezel.
The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition reference CAZ201D.BA0633 is crafted from stainless steel and measures a diameter of 44mm. A flat piece of sapphire crystal tops the case and has been treated with an anti-reflective layer to rid the dial of any glare. The case is also fitted with a screw-down crown bearing the famous TAG Heuer logo, helping to uphold the case’s 200-meter water resistance.
The Calibre 16 Automatic movement beats away inside the case of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna special edition watch. With a rapid day and date correction, it offers a 42-hour power reserve and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Its oscillating mass is adorned with Cotes de Geneva decoration and bears the “Swiss Made” lettering. Concealed behind a solid stainless steel case, the movement sits under a specially engraved caseback featuring the Brazilian driver’s iconic helmet alongside the lettering “SENNA SPECIAL EDITION”. To complete its sporty look, the new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna special edition watch is fitted on a fine brushed S-shaped link bracelet crafted from stainless steel. Its clasp, in a matching finish, is completed with a double safety push-button mechanism with an additional pilot extension.
