A Glimpse at the Bremont Supermarine Descent II
Friday - 11 March 2022
From Bremont’s esteemed Supermarine collection, the Descent II watch is crafted from an innovative mix of titanium and bronze and comes with an impressive 500-meter water resistance along with a helium escape valve for a superior underwater timekeeping experience
Following the success of the Supermarine 500, Bremont launched the Supermarine Descent watch – the band’s first limited edition dive watch, clad in an all-black DLC-coated aesthetic to merge into the curved profile of a sleek diver’s suit. The watch was water-resistant to 500 meters and had been forged from Bremont’s patented Trip-Tick case construction. Now, bringing back the design of the Supermarine Descent watch and enlivening it with a beautifully engineered 43mm case, the new Bremont Descent II pays homage to the British manufacturer’s contribution to the marine watch sector, releasing exclusive details about the model at its 2022 Townhouse watch exhibition.
A blend of lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials
As with all Bremont dive watches, the new Descent II watch from the Supermarine collection has been extensively tested beyond endurance for its water resistance, shock resistance, robustness and accuracy. The case of the new Bremont Descent watch is forged from a mix of lightweight titanium and corrosion-resistant bronze. Used throughout the luxury watch industry and a preferred choice for many watch enthusiasts, titanium offers a strength that is three times greater than steel, yet three times lighter in weight compared to the conventional material. The case of the Supermarine Descent II watch takes up the titanium proportion, whilst its unidirectional rotating bezel, designed to move only in the counter-clockwise direction for ultimate diver safety, is crafted from bronze.
What makes the new Bremont Descent II watch even more desirable is its ‘Anti-Shock’ movement mount, made possible by the British brand’s pioneering spirit and extensive development in materials and technology. The mechanism protects the movement against large shocks, making for a useful advantage when worn as a diving tool to pair with marine equipment.
The special edition Bremont Supermarine Descent II watch features a black metal dial with striking bronze-plated hands and applied Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock, along with matching baton hour markers. The cathedral shaped hands are crafted from the same materials and, like the hour markers, have been treated with Super-LumiNova, providing a fresh glow during nighttime hours. A 24-hour scale runs around the edge of the dial and is to be used in conjunction with the light blue arrow-tipped GMT hand.
The titanium case of the new Bremont Supermarine Descent II watch is integrated with 500-meter water resistance and is topped with a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front and a bronze unidirectional rotating bezel with a black inlay depicting a 60-minute track. The bezel moves only one way to eradicate the risk of accidentally knocking the bezel and extending the remaining dive time whilst underwater. The brand’s Trip-Tick case construction is partnered with a scratch-resistant DLC-treated case barrel. An automatic helium escape valve and crown protector resides at 2 o’clock on the case, whilst the titanium caseback with a sapphire crystal glass exhibition feature displays the internal performance of the watch’s beating heart.
The new Bremont Descent II watch is powered by the chronometer-certified BE-93-2AV, which provides a power reserve of 42 hours and beats at a rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement features a glucydor balance wheel, a nivaflex mainspring and an anachron balance spring. The watch comes fitted on a stunning Harbour Blue integrated rubber strap with linear detailing running vertically down the strap.
