Oris Big Crown X1 Watch Review

Luxury watch brand Oris has launched a new watch to celebrate a legendary milestone in aviation history.
On 14 May 1947 the Bell X1 made the first manned supersonic flight. It broke the sound barrier and made its way into the history books.
Oris’s new Big Crown X1 is a homage to that achievement. A spokesperson for Oris watches explained:

“The Bell X1 pilots undertook their amazing feat in an age before computers and pocket calculators, relying on the specially designed ‘slide rule’ for all engineering calculations. In honour of these pilots, Oris has included a circular version of the slide rule as part of the intrinsic design of the Oris Big Crown X1 Calculator.”
The watch’s case also has a gun metal coloured PVD coating to replicate the copper colour of the Bell X1 plane. The re-set pusher is marked with an X and the start stop pusher features a 1 in a further nod the watch’s namesake’s title.
