Alpina Watches Horological Smartwatch Watch Review
Friday - 15 May 2015
Alpina Watches confirms an exciting new collaboration for 2015. The International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) believe that the luxury sport watch brand is the perfect partnership with their ability to engineer robust and connected sport watches designed to survive in extreme natural environments with a focus on high altitudes.
The Skyrunner World Series was founded in the Alps in 1992 by Marino Giacometti - an Italian mountaineer. Today, the event is recognised as races that take place on a high altitude circuit across the world’s mountain ranges and includes 34 countries; a number which continues to grow.
Alpina Watches will attend specific events during the 2015 Skyrunner World Series and European Skyrunning Championships under their alliance. The events are held across the globe from the sky running heart-land in the Alps to north of the Arctic Circle, East to Hong Kong and West to America’s rugged Montana mountains.
The collaboration will witness the birth of the Alpina Smart Time Prize - an award given to the male and female winners. The Alpina Horological Smartwatch will be presented to the competitors who give an exceptional performance according to the ‘Smart Time Formula,’ which is calculated by the timing at the highest point of the race. To ensure that each contender is given a fair chance a bonus will be added to the younger and older individuals.
Alpina CEO explains: “Innovation, when combined with purpose, becomes progress. At Alpina, our innovations are exclusively devoted to serve the functional and design of those individuals challenging the hardest places on earth - such as the Alpine summits - home to Skyrunning. The best example is our new Horological Smartwatch. We are proud to partner with the ISF, which is leading the phenomenal worldwide growth of trail running.”
The Horological Smartwatch is a fantastic reward for the winners to receive with the innovative technical advancement housed in a beautiful design. The Alpina creation has the ability to connect to an iPhone or Android app without a digital screen monitoring sleep cycles and the wearers activities with a 2+ years battery life.
Marino Giacometti states: “Together with Alpina, we studied an exclusive formula to reward runner’ performance according to a smart equalising algorithm. In this Sport the rewards don’t just come from touching the sky! We’re very pleased to be able to encourage all participants with this additional prize which adjusts performance to the age of the athlete.”
