Nomos Glashütte has won a Good Design Award for its Ahoi timepiece.
The Good Design Award has recognised excellence within the international design community since 1950. The prize is awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum, the Museum of Architecture and Design, and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
This is the third consecutive Good Design Award for Nomos Glashütte, after a win for the Zürich in 2011, and the Tangente in 2012. Ahoi designer Thomas Höhnel said winning the award was "like all my Christmases coming at once".
The Nomos Glashütte Ahoi has won a series of consumer prizes in Germany, but this is the first international award for the model. The watch is described as a "more upbeat, sportier and more modern" version of the Nomos Glashütte Tangomat. It is water resistant to 200 metres, and has been tested according to Nomos standards not far off the DIN 8306 standard for diver's watches.
The Ahoi has a 40 mm stainless steel case, with an aligned bezel, domed glass and flank guards. The hour and minute hands have a SuperLumiNova inlay, and there is a small red second hand. The watch is powered by the automatic ε (Epsilon) calibre movement, built in-house by Nomos. It comes with a waterproof textile strap.
