The Fireman Ionosphere chronograph watch is a result of the cooperation between Ball and NASA astronaut Owen Garriott. Garriott's space experience helped Ball engineers design a beautiful and resilient timepiece. Fireman Ionosphere is powered by Swiss-made Valjoux 7750 automatic calibre that performs 28 800 vibrations per hour and has 25 bearing jewels. The timepiece is protected from shock and water penetration. Hands and indices are illuminated through the use of 19 self-powered micro gas tubes that glow 100 times brighter than luminous paint. The chronograph functions include sweep seconds, a 30-minute and a 12-hour counter. Fireman Ionosphere has various other useful features like a day and date display at 3 o'clock, screwed-in crown, engraved case back and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating.
