Exploring the new Norqain Independence Wild One Watches
Tuesday - 22 November 2022
Norqain has released four Wild One watches from the Independence collection – each one built from a multi-layered case construction manufactured from a new polymer and carbon fibre composition. With multi-level laser-cut dials and comfortable vegan rubber straps, the new Norqain Independence Wild One watches will be an instant hit with any outdoor-goer.
If you’re into high-performance sports watches and values like shock resistance, toughness, corrosion resistance and robustness are important to you, Norqain’s new Wild One series is definitely something you need to be involved in. The composite carbon case material is the first of its kind to offer a colour other than black (as seen in the burgundy red-coloured case edition) whilst its structured case design offers the best in terms of anti-corrosion, anti-magnetism and shock-proof qualities. Let’s explore the new Norqain Independence Wild One watches for 2022.
I can’t really introduce this new bold and daring range without first talking about the construction of Norqain’s innovative industry-leading case. It’s a game changer for the sports watch world and has been designed in collaboration with leading names in the industry such as Jean Claude Biver and BIWI SA. In addition to this, a further four Swiss watch companies were headhunted by Norqain to help design the three-tier dial design (Montremo SA), its skeletonised hands (Waeber HMS SA) and its movement (Kenissi). In fact, the entire design of this new Wild One watch is a completely collaborative effort. CEO of Norqain, Ben Küffer explains a little more about the uniqueness of these new models;
“There is no better way to describe the Wild ONE than the ultimate sports watch for every NORQAINER. It’s the culmination of over two years of close collaboration between Jean-Claude Biver, our team and the best Swiss suppliers. The Wild ONE is 100% Swiss-made. From the entire development process to the production of every component of the watch – it all came to life within a small radius from Jura to Bienne and Neuchâtel. Our motto throughout the project was ‘zero compromise’ and we delivered on this by always opting for the highest-quality solution. I am incredibly proud of the final result.”
The Wild One configurations…
The two standard black & blue and black & khaki watches feature a black case that uses Norqain’s NORTEQ technology. Whilst the blue version exposes elements of its blue shock-absorbing structure through the case, the khaki green version does the same. The hands and hour markers are diamond-cut and rhodium-coated before being treated with a layer of X1 Super-LumiNova material, whilst the hands are skeletonised and have been developed in collaboration with Waeber HMS SA. A repeated N logo in a mandala-style effect (blue for the black & blue version, and black for the black & khaki iteration) is accompanied by a three-tier laser-cut dial. Between each layer is a 0.5mm space that creates a sense of depth and dimension across each design. The blue and khaki versions are both fitted with a colour-matching vegan rubber strap with a “Milanese” structure. The Hakuna Mipaka limited edition version of just 500 pieces is fitted on a black rubber strap and features a matching black dial with a stamped “lion fur” pattern and the “HAKUNA MIPAKA” logo at 6 o’clock. The red-cased version is limited to 200 pieces and features a proprietary red carbon composite case with a grey patterned dial and grey rubber strap. All models are 200-meter water resistant and measure a diameter of 42mm.
The new NORTEQ case technology
To create a case that is anti-magnetic, corrosion resistant, anti-shock and scratch resistant, not to mention three times lighter than titanium and six times lighter than stainless steel, many hours of planning, trialling, testing and research are propelled into its design. This innovative Wild One case is a blend of carbon fibre and a polymer mix made up of 60% caster oil. The case of the watch includes a rubber core, making its structure incredibly shockproof, plus it’s also the first material of its kind to be available in different colours. Composed of 25 individual components, the case also features a titanium core inside a rubber middle with a layer of sapphire crystal applied both front and back to protect a chronometer-certified at its heart.
The Wild One’s Kenissi movement
That beating heart is a 100% Swiss-made chronometer-certified automatic movement. The Calibre NN20/1, manufactured by Kenissi, features a traversing bridge with a two-point fixation for improved power and performance. Its unique Norqain decorations, such as the double-N” Norqain logo (also featured on the dial), can be admired through a sapphire crystal glass exhibition feature, as well as the “Adventure – Freedom – Independence” lettering emblazoned upon the surface of the oscillating weight – a nod to Norqain’s core values. The movement also offers an impressive 70-hour power reserve once fully wound. This movement can be admired through a sapphire glass pane, sealed to a caseback.
The robust and rugged sports watch stands for much more than just a companion for tough terrain, adventure-seeking and mountain exploration. It demonstrates Norqain’s daring nature to embark upon a multi-brand collaborative effort to produce something wholly new and unique for its dedicated following.
