Bremont Launches New S500 Bamford Special Edition Watch

Limited to just 250 pieces worldwide, Bremont partners up with Britain’s leading watch customization company, the Bamford Watch Company, to create a whole new and unique take on the Henley-on-Thames manufacturer’s signature Supermarine S500 watch design

The Bamford Watch Company has been setting itself apart since the year 2016. Renowned not only for making watches of its own but also for its expertise in watch customization, the company has been building its portfolio for just a few years but has made great advancements in this field of expertise. Initially starting as a company that would customize globally leading brand names, the Bamford Watch Department has shown true determination and a daring nature, having collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious watch brands. The new Bremont S500 Bamford Special Edition watch celebrates a design deeply rooted in British watchmaking. It communicates shared respect for design and innovation between the two British companies and adds a unique twist to Bremont’s signature Supermarine S500 model.

No other watch customisation company could suit the job of recreating the Bremont Supermarine watch better than the Bamford Watch Company. Recently, many high-end watch brands have developed customization programs for their timepieces. Bamford Watch Company has ventured along this line, partnering up with Jean Claude Biver in 2017 who, at the time, was in charge of LVMH’s division. The company became the official customizer for Bvlgari, Zenith and TAG Heuer as a result. The set-up enabled customers to transform the look of their watch without voiding their warranty with the official manufacturer, which made its services extra special. The headquarters of Bamford Watch Company is situated in London’s prestigious Mayfair area. The only clue to its location is a black door handle that resembles the shape of a watch crown, a motif that reflects not only the company’s expertise but its quirky approach to timekeeping. Not far from this location is The Wing – Bremont’s Manufacturing and Technology centre. This 35,000 sq ft state-of-the-art British watchmaking centre is where each innovative Bremont watch is conceptualized and thus where the initial sketches of the new Bremont S500 Bamford Special Edition watch took place.

The new Bremont S500 Bamford Special Edition watch

The new Bremont S500 Bamford Special Edition watch is limited to 250 pieces worldwide and focuses on Bamford’s use of luminous material and its expertise in DLC case coatings. A DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coated case must go through a meticulous process. It involves the application of a certain type of carbon to the surface of a watch, followed by exposing the case to a quick cooling process that ensures the coating sticks to the stainless steel. This method also improves the abrasion-resistant and hardened qualities of stainless steel. Bamford Watch Company has learned this process from industry experts, refining it and using it as a stand-out design element in many of its designs, including this new Bremont S500 Bamford Special Edition watch.

The Bremont Supermarine watch has been in the company’s portfolio since 2009 and has rightfully earned its place as a robust and reliable dive tool companion. Its 45mm design is tough and beautifully engineered. It was born out of a love for the iconic British aircraft manufacturer responsible for the Supermarine S6B Schneider Trophy Seaplane and the Supermarine Spitfire. To mark this connection the back of this 500-meter water-resistant case (and true to all S500 watches from Bremont) is engraved with an image of the Supermarine Seaplane upon its surface. Nick English extends upon the importance of the Supermarine S500 model and the new collaborative effort:

“The S500 Supermarine is an icon of our brand and it’s been hugely exciting collaborating with George to produce this special edition. Projects such as this provide so much design inspiration and it’s been an incredibly natural process with George sharing so many of the same interests, from aviation to automobiles and vintage military timepieces. We’re proud to be pioneering a British watch collaboration of this sort and we’re equally as proud of the result, a watch that sublimely fuses the Bremont and Bamford design aesthetic”

Beyond this beautifully decorated caseback is the Modified Calibre BE-36AE movement, which sits inside Bremont’s patented Trip Tick case construction. It performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement also features a Nivaflex mainspring, an Anachron balance spring and a Glucydor balance.

On the dial side of the watch, this new Bremont and Bamford collaboration sees a new striking ‘California Blue’ Super-LumiNova® material applied to the surface of a set of newly designed hands and indexes. This is the first time we see a California dial from Bremont and Bamford. A solid disc of luminous material is part of the watch’s new layered dial, which is then covered by a plate of indexes to expose the lume through a black sandwich-effect display. The hour markers are a mix of traditional Roman numerals, triangles and horizontal batons – all of which are enhanced by this clever dial structure and, of course, the DLC effect of the model’s stainless steel case. The matte black hands with blue luminous tips are another nice addition, as is the spearhead shaped counterbalance on the base of the second hand. Other features include a minute scale on the flange, a domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front, and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a black ceramic bezel insert and polished raised markers.

As well as a protective patented antishock movement mount to protect the performance of the Calibre BE-36AE movement, the new Bremont S500 Bamford Special Edition watch also features a helium escape valve and a crown protector to help the case uphold its 500-meter water resistance. The limited-edition Bremont watch is completed on a stylish black sailcloth strap with light blue side stitching and a jet-treated pin buckle.
