US Olympic Goalkeeper Signs Deal with Seiko Watches

Hope Solo, the Olympic gold medal winning goalkeeper of the US women's football team, has become the latest brand ambassador for Seiko watches.

The Japanese brand is already partnered with Landon Donovan, all-time leading goalscorer for the US national team, and FC Barcelona, current Champions of Europe and the World. Seiko believes the deal with Hope Solo will further boost Seiko's links with the sport.

Widely considered to be one of the best players in women's football, Solo has earned 112 caps for her country and was voted Best Goalkeeper at the 2011 Women's World Cup. She helped the team to win gold in the last Olympic Games in Beijing, and will play a key part for the US team in London 2012 - the team did not concede a single goal in the qualifying games.

Solo has made appearances for a number of American and European teams at club level, and joined the Seattle Sounders in February this year. Her profile with US audiences was raised when she reached the semi-final of 'Dancing with the Stars' in 2011.

As brand ambassador, Hope Solo will support the new Seiko Sportura and Coutura collections. A range of Hope Solo special edition watches will also be created.
"I look for a watch that truly matches my lifestyle and is a subtle, unconventionally beautiful accent to my everyday style," Solo said. "I am honoured to become a new member of the Seiko family as brand ambassador, sharing the same philosophy as Seiko in life of pure dedication to perfection."

Ken Hagiwara, President and CEO of Seiko Corporation of America, said: "Ms. Solo shows a unique and commendable passion for strength and dedication to perfection that embodies the essence of Seiko.  We look forward to working with her."
