If you’re looking to learn more about the Garmin MARQ 2 and a bit on the history of Garmin, keep reading…

Garmin was established in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min H. Kao, taking the founders’ first names and combining them to create, what would become, an industry leader in technology. The company wanted to focus on the aviation, sport, automotive and the marine industries, and began by creating their first innovation, a Garmin GPS system for the latter. In 1991, Garmin found fantastic success with their GPS and handheld navigational tools and were soon approached by the military to create a bespoke piece of technology. A few years later, the GPS III came in 1997, built for the automotive industry.

2003 was a huge year for Garmin as they broke into the watchmaking world, creating their first range of Garmin smartwatches known as the 101, 201 and 301. The latter two models enabled the wearer to upload training data to a personal computer. Their prowess for smartwatch technology only grew, and so did their collections of wearables, with new Garmin smartwatches launched for swimming, running, athletic training, golfing, hiking, biking among many other sports. These watches could monitor your heart rate, track calories burnt and give advice on your athletic performance. These were ground-breaking watches for their time and only signalled what would come.

In 2019, Garmin launched what would be their most luxurious and expensive range of smartwatches yet – the Garmin MARQ. These watches were engineered from high quality materials like titanium, ceramic and sapphire crystal and secured to the wrist by watch straps made from metal, leather, jacquard weave nylon and breathable rubber. Each of the watches were also tailored towards their own wearer. The Garmin MARQ Athlete set it sights on fitness fanatics while the Garmin MARQ Adventurer was aimed at hikers and world travellers. There was also the Garmin MARQ Golfer, MARQ Captain, MARQ Driver, MARQ Aviator and MARQ Commander. These watches came equipped with some of Garmin’s best smartwatch technology including PacePro technology which helps keep you on pace with grade-adjusted guidance as you run a course and a ClimbPro feature which lets you see real-time information on your current and upcoming climbs, including gradient, distance and elevation gain.

Two years later and the second generation Garmin MARQ 2 watch arrived – the Garmin MARQ 2. Also known as the Garmin MARQ II and the Garmin MARQ Gen 2, this collection features a similar set of designs aimed at different lifestyles and personalities but with advanced technologies and materials added. For starters, the Garmin MARQ 2 watches incorporate AMOLED touchscreen displays for increased responsiveness and better legibility. There’s also an improved battery life of 16 days, a jet lag advisor, SATIQ technology with multi-band GNSS for superior positioning accuracy in any environment, a real time stamina function, Health SnapShot feature and much more.
