Limited to 500 pieces worldwide, the new matte black ceramic Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Multimeter watch is a unique timing device that allows you to calculate your heart rate, your breaths per minute, and distance based on speed, all in one multifaceted BR 03 instrument
Combine the functionality of a chronograph with an additional scale to measure an average rate and you have an indispensable timekeeping instrument for land, sea and skies. The new Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Multimeter watch is a multi-scale chronograph that measures everything from speed based on distance to heart rate. All the while, the watch retains its modern aircraft instrument-inspired architecture and underscores a strong emphasis on fitness with this new addition to the BR 03 watch collection.
Bell & Ross’ most graphic novelty of 2022…
Most notably, the new Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Multimeter watch takes the form of the brand’s cockpit gauge-inspired design from 2005. Its circle within a square construction measures a 42mm diameter and has been crafted from matte black ceramic to give it a sleek, action-ready look. Cleverly, the black design language of the watch makes it ideal for pairing with casual attire, as well as your “grab-and-go” gym kit. Its vibrant injection of colours not only helps to distinguish one measuring scale from another but enhances a sporty dynamic that pops against the black richness of the model’s exterior. A narrow chamfered bezel is joined by the familiar screws used for decoration and, of course, the wedge-style lugs.
“The sharpest looking BR 03 instrument…”
In keeping with the sleek and sharp look of the BR 03-94 Multimeter designs, the push-pieces are rectangular in shape, harmonising with the overall design of the case. This could quite possibly be the sharpest looking BR 03 instrument from Bell and Ross of all time. Somehow, the combination of its black silhouette, punctuated by vibrantly coloured scales gives the watch a certain athletic feel and conveys a crisper, edgier look compared to some other watches from the BR 03 series. In addition to the watch’s scratch-resistant ceramic casing, the new Bell & Ross Multimeter watch is also integrated with 100-meter water resistance and endowed with a strong sapphire crystal glass top to ensure a water-tight environment is upheld at the centre of the watch.
Upon first glance of its dial, the new Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Multimeter watch is a far cry from other instrument-inspired wristwatches of the chronograph kind. Instead, it almost evokes the look of vintage decompression scale units from the 1960s. Including the outer seconds scale, the dial of the new Bell & Ross Multimeter watch features a total of 6 concentric scales that each show a different type of measurement, making this latest addition to the BR 03 watch collection the most unusual looking and uniquely operating instrument yet.
To make each scale easier to track, the scales are presented in different colours. Working our way from the outer black seconds scale is the pulsometer for recording heart rate per minute, presented in a vivid orange hue. Next is the much rarer seen asthmometer scale in a striking seafoam green hue, perfect for measuring breathing rate. Since these two scales are closely related, especially for use at the gym or whilst out on a run, they are conveniently positioned close to one another on the dial. Next is the white scale, calibrated mainly for measuring timings on the racetrack. The standard tachymeter scale is incredibly easy to read against the colours that sandwich it on either side. Lastly, there are a further two tachymeter scales, one in a canary yellow, the other in khaki green. These are calibrated for runners and cyclists specifically and make for a rare sight once combined with the standard white tachymeter scale.
A repositioned date window and partially-printed chronograph sub-counters
Whilst getting used to the multiple scales on the dial of the Bell & Ross BR 04-94 Multimeter watch, and for quick reference - a chart to decipher each scale can be found on the left side of the dial between the hours of 6 and 12 o’clock. Understandably the other elements on the dial, including the handset need to remain incredibly subdued to ensure the watch doesn’t become too over-complicated. To make sure of this, Bell & Ross chooses straight hands, a needle-fine white central chronograph second hand and elemental lume stick hour markers. The most interesting element of all, however, has to be the repositioning of the date aperture, which now takes residence at 1 o’clock. Additionally, the half-printed 30-minute chronograph counter and small second sub-dial melt neatly into the background of the dial whilst their striking neon hands and white numerals and equally easy to read against the coloured scales.
Visually attractive, the singular and graphic chronograph from Bell & Ross is powered by the Calibre BR-CAL.301 based on the ETA 2894-2. It provides a power reserve of 42 hours and beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour. To complete its design, the watch is paired with a matching black rubber strap, stamped with the iconic Bell & Ross logo and securing with a black PVD-coated stainless steel pin buckle.
