Maurice Lacroix Releases NEW Pontos S Steel Diver Watches
Saturday - 27 May 2023
The popular Pontos S Diver watch by Maurice Lacroix has returned, delighting fans with its improved design whilst keeping the faithful style of the luxury dive watch thoroughly intact.
When you fall in love with a luxury watch that ceases production, it’s a really hard thing for a watch enthusiast to come to terms with, especially if you’ve collected every model from the series and never really want to stop. It’s a little like what happened to the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watch. The first model was released back in 2013 but over recent years Maurice Lacroix took the decision to cease production of it whilst they focussed their attention on developing the Aikon watch. It was bad news for devoted fans of the Pontos S Diver watch. Over the years, Maurice Lacroix has been inundated with requests from enthusiasts, begging for a return of the watch. The least the brand could do was to please its faithful followers with a newly designed model that offered plenty in the way of improved features but retained its all-important dive watch spirit. So, that’s what the brand did. Here’s all you need to know about the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watches for 2023. The steel core models accompany a third limited edition watch which we’ll cover in more detail soon, but FYI – it comes in a stunning steel outfit.
The urban-inspired styling of the original Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watch is kept completely intact with these new steel additions to the collection. To sport the new timepiece and to mark the unveiling of a new Pontos S Diver watch generation, no other than Lidija Lijic was chosen by Maurice Lacroix. The successful world-champion free-diver, who currently holds the world record for staying underwater for 5 minutes and 43 seconds, makes her life all about chasing her next challenge and facing the extreme conditions thrown in her path. Clearly, it is only she who could put the luxury dive watch through its paces. Managing Director of Maurice Lacroix, Stéphane Waser explains more;
“When developing this latest PONTOS S Diver, we were keen to retain the spirit of the first-generation model but push the performance envelope with various product enhancements. As an ML Crew member, it seemed logical to ask Lidija Lijic to test the new model...exploring its full potential, deep underwater. While I was already aware of her achievements and immense talent, I was struck by her sheer dedication, not only to her sport, but in everything she does. She proved the perfect test pilot for this divers’ watch which is water resistant to 30 ATM. Lidija also informs us that the watch makes a strong statement on dry land too!”
All the details you need to know about the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver steel watches
The 42mm Pontos S Diver watches joining Maurice Lacroix’s core line up are all crafted from stainless steel with a 300-meter water resistance and they all feature an additional crown at 2 o’clock, which joins the screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. This 2 o’clock crown can be manipulated to move the internal rotating bezel of the dive watch. This useful way of measuring elapsed time whilst underwater has a count-up scale that is easily readable in dark conditions. A choice of a lacquered white dial or a grained black dial has been made available for these new steel Pontos S Diver models. Both options feature plenty of Super-LumiNova material for timekeeping during the night or in dark conditions. The hour and minute hands on the dial are faceted and lined with this luminous material, whilst the minute hand features a coloured border that stands out from the rest of the dial. One subtle difference between the older Pontos S Diver watches and this new generation is the now more visibly prominent and crisper hour indexes and minute markers. Also – a date window at 6 o’clock has been framed by a raised border to enable it to stand out better.
At the heart of the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watch is the ML 115 Calibre, which comprises 26 jewels and beats at a rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The automatic movement also provides a power reserve once fully wound of 38 hours and is housed underneath a solid stainless steel caseback. To finish its new and striking aesthetic, the Pontos S Diver watch is supplied with a total of three colour-coordinating straps. One is a fabric strap with the metal ML logo branded upon it and the other two are rubber bands with the Maurice Lacroix lettering applied in relief upon their surface. To swap over the straps of the watch, you can make use of the brand’s innovative Easy Strap Exchange System, which enables you to do so quickly and without the need for any additional tools.
