Hands-on with the Garmin MARQ 2 Golfer Watch

Fitted on a green-coloured nylon Jacquard weave strap to match its green-coloured ceramic bezel, the new MARQ 2 Golfer watch by Garmin marks the second generation of the cutting-edge smartwatch. To advance its ability in assisting with giving you the edge over your components, the golfing smartwatch boasts features like the Virtual Caddie, Hazard View, Wind Data, and PinPointer to name just a few, enabling you to play your absolute best whilst taking advantage of all the best-selling features of the Garmin MARQ.

Over the years, the Garmin MARQ has grown to assist specific sport-oriented individuals and the lifestyles of those most active with the Athlete, Captain, Commander, Adventurer, Driver, Aviator, and Golfer models. To fit in line with life on the golfing course, the new MARQ 2 Golfer features a striking green ceramic bezel with 18 custom-etched hole markings. Like its four siblings - also released as part of the MARQ 2 series - the watch is also custom built, honing into the requirements of professional and amateur golfers with its newly built 46mm case crafted from lightweight and improved scratch-resistant titanium. There are several new features to note about the new MARQ 2 Golfer, many of which it shares with the Captain, Athlete, Adventurer and Aviator iterations. That said, some additional elements make this smartwatch extra special and expertly equipped with superior golf-friendly features.

A quick recap of the original Garmin MARQ

The Garmin MARQ launch was revealed back in 2019 with the MARQ Driver, MARQ Aviator, MARQ Captain, MARQ Adventurer and MARQ Athlete, followed by the MARQ Commander and a special-edition MARQ Captain: the American Magic Edition. The design concept of the collection was 30 years in the making and was the next step up from the Fenix 5, with all-around new and improved health and fitness apps. By combining cutting-edge technology with high-grade materials, Garmin’s business segments; aviation, automotive, fitness, outdoor and marine were brought into focus with areas of flying, racing and sports. Superior connectivity promised a wearable touchscreen tool combined with a supreme selection of materials including titanium, sapphire, ceramic, diamond-like carbon coating, jacquard-weave nylon straps and Italian vacchetta leather bands. The Garmin MARQ was suitable for flying, sailing, outdoor adventures and driving, all enhanced by a QuickFit attachment mechanism for easy watch strap changes. Finally, pilots could now rely on precise navigation. Motorists could travel using turn-by-turn directional assistance.

The new MARQ 2 watches by Garmin

Each model from the new second-gen Garmin MARQ 2 series offers something a little different. That said, the features they share are also worth a mention since there are plenty to highlight in comparison to the original MARQ series. The models are based on the foundations of the Garmin Epix platform and share several qualities with the Fenix 7. The changes in comparison to the original MARQ series, however, include the case material – now crafted from grade 5 titanium with improved resistance to scratching, push buttons which have been redesigned to assist with easy operation, a new charging port/cable that promises a much faster-charging rate, improved battery power (a rechargeable lithium battery that lasts up to 16 days with gesture and up to 6 days in always-on mode.) and an AMOLED display covered and protected by a strong piece of sapphire crystal glass. These are mostly external features that can be seen from the watch’s outward design, yet the changes continue internally too. The new MARQ 2 series now offers a pre-loaded TopoActive mapping feature assisted by NextFork™ technology, as well as the ClimbPro feature. This allows you to see real-time information on your current and upcoming climbs, including gradient, distance and elevation gain — as well as descents and flats, whilst the TopoActive mapping and NextFork™ help you to see your distance to the next trail intersection, as well as the name of the upcoming trail.

In addition to this, the new MARQ 2 Golfer watch, as well as its accompanying models, offers Garmin’s new Jetlag Advisor software. This minimises the effects of jet lag with guidance on light exposure, sleep schedule and exercise on your next long-distance trip. All you need to do to utilise this feature is enter your travel details in the Garmin Connect™ smartphone app calendar, and then track how your body clock is adjusting to your new destination. Alongside this is the new Satiq™ technology with Multi-band GNSS. This secures superior positioning accuracy in any environment while also optimising the device’s battery life.

Up your game

New and exclusive to the Golfer model of the new MARQ 2 series by Garmin is the Virtual Caddie, the Hazard View, the Wind Data and the PinPointer features. The Virtual Caddie factors in wind speed and direction and then suggests a club based on the distance you typically swing, with that particular club. The Wind Speed and Direction feature makes it much easier to figure out which club to use and which direction to swing. With 42,000 pre-loaded golf courses, you can combine these features with the watch’s tracking sensors for more advanced tracking capabilities, including locations, distances and club type. Lastly, the Payslike Distance feature adjusts yardages to account for uphill and downhill shots, whilst the Greenview feature gives you the true shape of each green from wherever you are on the course. It also allows you to move the pin for greater accuracy. If you need to get hold of critical distance information, the Hazard View feature lets you quickly scroll through these locations on the map to leverage your tactics. There’s also Green Contour Data that lets you sink your putt after viewing the slope direction on the green.

All of these features offered in the MARQ 2 Golfer watch can be enjoyed alongside the usual MARQ offerings which include; a Wristband Heartrate, Health Snapshot feature, Body Battery Energy Monitoring, Stress Tracking, Pulse OX Sensor, a multitude of sports apps, Training Status, Training Readiness, Garmin Coach and Garmin’s PacePro technology.
