Exploring the Gucci Dive Watch Collection

Watches may not be the first thing that springs to mind when the name Gucci pops up in conversation, but the Italian Fashion House has certainly earned its reputation for developing some incredibly stylish wristwatches over the years. Many associate Gucci with the daring, bold and unisex jewellery designs that have influenced fashion for decades. Gucci jewellery, after all, is deemed an expressive and emotive way to wear modern jewellery. An extension of one’s personality. In that same vein, Gucci interweaves a touch of Italian flair with Swiss timekeeping when creating its core watch collections – one of them being the Gucci Dive watch range. But where did watchmaking start for Gucci?

The beginnings of Gucci timekeeping

The Italian fashion brand actually spans back to 1906, when Guccio Gucci first founded the company. From the beginning, his products all centred around luxury. In 1948 Gucci established his first boutique in Rome and from the year of his death onwards (1953). His son took over managing the business, expanding it internationally. This very same year, Gucci made it to the US with a franchise set up in no other than New York. Fast forward to 1973 and Gucci made it to a very important milestone. It was the first fashion house to venture into watchmaking. Despite originating in Italy, Gucci is considered a Swiss watch brand since its manufacturing facility is located in La Chaux de Fonds. This unique mix of Italian elegance and Swiss watchmaking has enabled the company to enjoy over 40 years of success as a watchmaker alongside its already huge jewellery fan base.

Fine finishes and attention to detail are paramount to the design of every Gucci watch and it is this meticulous approach to wristwatch manufacture that has led to such a wide reach and a global following of its Dive watch collection. If you’re planning on exploring the deep blue any time soon and you haven’t yet acquired a dive watch to accompany you, it might worthwhile to know that you don’t necessarily need to break the bank to own a dive watch. The Gucci Dive watch range offers some very robust and legible watches for diving at an affordable price.

About Gucci dive watches

It’s not unusual to see a Gucci house motif emblazoned upon the dial of a Gucci dive watch. Some iconic motifs feature across large-sized dials, creating a multifaceted wristwatch that can be worn for multiple purposes. Some of the watches from this collection don’t convey the conventional dive watch dial. Take, for example, the Gucci Dive watch reference YA136219, developed for the brand’s 2019 Cruise collection. It features the symbolic Kingsnake, stealthily coiling up towards the top of the dial in a meandering motion. This house motif offers a contemporary and eye-catching focal feature to the entire design and is framed by a steel case PVD coated in yellow gold. This luxurious finish on the case, alongside the Kingsnake motif, makes for a particularly unusual watch to associate with diving. Still, the model offers 200-meter water resistance and a black dial with luminous circular hour markers. A rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale completes the water-ready look of this broad 45mm Gucci Dive watch for men. What’s more, it comes completed on a stainless steel bracelet, doubling up as an elegant timepiece for dressing up with smarter attire.

For something a little more conventional-looking, the Gucci Dive Kingsnake model is also available in a steel case version. The reference YA136219 comes with a silver-coloured snake motif against its black dial and is fitted in the same rugged stainless steel bracelet with a secure folding clasp. For a luxury five watch with a much more classic look and feel, the Gucci Dive watch reference YA136301B can never look out of place on the wrist with its black dial on a steel case and bracelet. The date aperture at 6 o’clock is where dive watches from Gucci may stand out compared to others on the market. The date is displayed in a retrograde fashion but somehow manages to seamlessly blend into the dial without looking out of place on an already dive watch-inspired display. The hour markers on the dial are luminous for enhanced readability in the dark and the dial is surrounded once again by a black ceramic bezel with the 60-minute markings for measuring elapsed time underwater. Thanks to its exaggerated proportions, this Gucci Dive watch exudes confidence and masculinity, making it the perfect watch to invest in whether you share a passion for diving or just like the look of a robust action-ready tool watch.

The nylon Gucci Web strap is an accessory that has been used throughout the Italian brand’s catalogue of timepieces. In this creation, it seems to convey a somewhat sportier persona once combined with the black diving bezel of this Gucci Dive watch reference YA136209A, complete with matching red and green colours to mark the first 15 minutes of dive time on the bezel. The stainless steel model has a matte black dial that looks smart whether fitted on the red and green material strap or dressed up on its alternative stainless steel bracelet, which goes by the model reference YA136208A. Either way, the watch is powered by a quartz movement for guaranteed accuracy and features an anti-reflective lens crafted from sapphire crystal glass to protect the surface of the watch’s stealthy black dial with luminous splashes in the hour track and the hands.
